It is untrue that it makes a surface hydrophobic, what makes it is that you have a surface that was pre-waxed like on new car. It may make an unwaxed surface shine for a period of time but It will eventually build an annoying film that you can only get rid off by waxing the service with a real wax like mothers or Nu finish. I believe it highly corrosive as I have seen it killing a garden hedge that got exposed to over spraying. I do not buy to their claims.
There is no thing that would make water bead if it is a water solution. it defies surface chemistry. all you see after a while tiny whitish spots specially on black cars

If you guys hand wash this is the stuff to use I have used it for years I have black cars leaves a just waxed look
Just a tip tho wash in the shade and use a leaf blower to dry DONT use drying rags
