The WIX 49012 Air Filter Panel is an OEM compatible replacement Engine Air Filter. This air filter arrived in standard WIX boxing. Inside the box was the filter, an instruction sheet, and a manufacture notice sheet. This product was installed on a 2011 WRX and in use for around a month.
The fitment of the WIX 49012 Air Filter Panel was very close, if not exactly the same, to the OEM Subaru Air filter. Installation of the filter was very simple, take off a few clips and unscrew the air scoop to easily access the air filter box. You can replace the air filter without taking the air scoop out, but is makes it a bit harder as you need to manipulate the placement of the air filter box and air scoop just right. You may also accidentally loosen some of the hoses.
After installation of the WIX 49012, the MAF sensor reported similar numbers to when the car was brand new (unfortunately I forgot to take a reading before installing the new filter). These numbers were recorded through a Tactrix 2 cable and RomRaider. On the butt-dyno scale, the WRX feels more responsive than before the new filter was installed; an ever so slight hesitation was present before the installation that seems to have disappeared. Unfortunately due to this loss of hesitation, my MPG seems to have decreased, as I find myself flooring it more often.
Overall, the WIX 49012 Air Filter Panel is a good, affordable, and easy to install replacement OEM compatible air filter. Unfortunately I did not record any numbers just prior to installing the new air filter, but my impressions of this air filter are that my 2011 WRX is at least back to similar responsiveness as when it was originally purchased. I recommend the WIX 49012 Air Filter Panel for those looking for an inexpensive compatible replacement air filter.

Much easier to install when I placed it into and against the intake side (the side closest to the passenger compartment) and then replaced that combined filter/housing unit into the intake “box”. It’s a bit tight but seemed correctly so; I’ve no idea why there would be any need for any trimming whatsoever. Great product, easy job. Maybe 5 minutes unless you want to take a couple extra minutes to vacuum out the box. Thanks WIX for making a great product and thanks Amazon for such a prompt delivery.

This engine air filter was an excellent replacement for my 2012 Subaru Outback. The one I replaced was pretty darn nasty; full of dust and bugs. This is a pretty easy DIY fix, and buying it on Amazon and installing it myself saved me time and money. Will definitely buy again.

I installed this filter on a 2018 Subaru outback with a 2.5I engine. This is the second one I’ve bought for the car. When I swapped it out the first time it seems to have as many pleats as the Subaru filter had so I think it’s a pretty good replacement product. Installing it is very easy on the Subaru outback. There are two spring loaded clips that you pop up and then you just have to separate the housing which takes a little bit of effort. If you are careful and take your time, anybody could do it.

The filter fits fine length and width, but just a weee bit to deep (front to back) due to a taller edge than the OEM filter. The taller edge results in the air box lid being a bit tight to clip shut but still providing a leak free seal I believe. With poor lighting, I believe there was a very small gap between the lid and main air box assembly when clipped shut but this gap is on the inlet side of the filter so should any air pass by the gap, it would be filtered through the media just as the incoming air is that comes from the intake tube. If you have the interest, time and patience required – one could trim back the taller edge ~1/16th” for a better fit. Exactly what I’ll do for the pricing and quality WIX filters provide.
