Used this charger for the 4 new 12 V SLA batteries I got for my wife’s electric trike. First time I hooked them up, 3 out of 4 lites came on, 4th light blinked, then in a few minutes joined the others indicating batteries fully charged. I trusted the description of the charger which said the charger would automatically switch to maintenance mode/trickle charge and so I left it connected to the batteries. No more than 5 minutes later I heard a loud “Pop!” and saw a small puff of smoke coming from the charger. No indicator lights remained on, needless to say. I’ve returned the charger and will order something else, hopefully “smarter” than this one.

Okay, I’m on an apology tour. I obviously didn’t understand the difference between LiPO and lead acid. Did not understand that if there wasn’t a certain minimum current level on the battery, the charging protection circuit wouldn’t be active, and the charger wouldn’t have a clue what the status of the battery was, and thus would not initiate charging.
The fine folks at Arkpower, the provider of the battery, worked with me to figure all this out. Kudos to them, and their review got pumped up as well.
Since they assisted me on this “I’m an idiot” issue, this charger is charging the battery without issue. Like others have reported, it DOES get really freaking hot, but that shouldn’t matter too much until summer time.

This 10A charger charges our 100Ah LiFePO4 camper battery in about 10 hours. I love that it has 5 lights that show clearly what stage of charging it is at, along with a small volt meter I have attached. The BMS had shut the battery off and this charger brought it right back. A cheaper charger I got only had one light that went from green to red, and being colorblind I could not tell what color it was, so I sent it back. This one does get fairly hot to the touch, but as long as you have good ventilation it should be fine. If you have a LiFePO4 battery, it’s essential to have a charger designed for it, and this was the lowest price I could find with a charge rate that works well for me.

Works as it should. I was sceptical of the price that it was actually a 10 amp charger. It charges my 10ah battery in just over an hour so I would say it’s a 10amp charger. I’ve had this for over a year now and have had no problems with it, I use it about once a week. The only thing is after a little while the SAE connection would get very hot and not a great connection. Easily fixed with a little electric grease. I’ve been mostly living outdoors the whole time so it was due to the moisture corroding the metal connections. The charger has had no problems with the moisture. It does get a bit hot I was concerned at first but again I’ve had no problems with it. Great value for the money. If it stopped working today I would buy another one. I’ve put it through it’s paces for sure

It’s not that expensive like other 10A chargers. But it works OK and charging LiFePO4 battery fast.

The Good:
-Stupid simple to use. Connect cable matching your setup to charger. Put cable on battery. Plug in charger, then wait.
-Brought my 30Ah LFP to full charge in a few hours.
-Indicator lights do a decent job of showing status from a distance.
The Bad:
Clamp leads are cheap, no physical crimp, just a blob of solder holding the cable to each lead. XLR connector seems solid, have not disassembled (yet).
No leads with lugs. Modified a set by cutting off clamps and crimping on ring terminals. Ring terminals then bolted to battery.
Do not put this on anything heat’sensitive! While my ring terminals stayed relatively cool, the clamps did not. Charger runs very hot! Alarmingly so.
Power cord is loose. Had to play with how was inserting to get red power light to turn on and stay on.
AM radio is trashed from converter noise. Will mediate this on customization.
The Customizations:
-Will be making additional pigtail leads to support multiple batteries
-Add inline noise filters
-Add 15vdc cooling fan. Plan is to open case, identify optimal airflow path, then will drill/cut opening for fan to blow into, and add vents for air to enter / exit. Screen with stainless steel mesh and ground to address electrical noise.
-Add copper foil on case interior for electrical noise mediation
-Add ground point so copper foil can be functional and not just ornamental.
Yeah, will probably void warranty but will see. Nothing being done to circuit itself, so might get away with it as long as using due diligence, industry standard practices, etc.
Any water tightness definitely goes out the window with fan addition. Will only be used in interior environment with conditioned air.
I got mine for what I consider a great price. Even with anticipated mods costs, in time and money, it is still worth it.

I got this charger for a 100ah lifepo4 battery and so far it has done what it’s designed to do which is charge my battery. I am not sure how long it will last but I will update this review if its performance changes. It does get a little hot while its charging but not to bad.
