2003 Toyota Tacoma Blower Motor Replacement
Finally had to fix this. I ordered this over 2 years ago and after having to hit the bottom of the motor with my palm when it would stop working (gentle hit and it usually worked for months) it finally stopped working. Of course I waited until it was 108° and driving home from vacation.
I had watched a number of videos and dreaded taking apart the door sill and kick panel like they suggest, some even remove the glovebox. I didn’t do any of that as there are just three (3) 8mm nuts to remove, and undo the pigtail wire… that’s it! The motor dropped right out in under a minute. The replacement was just as easy, reverse the steps and Boom so fixed.
This quality is identical and the price is Amazon Prime! I’ve included pictures if you need a reference (before, product, and after). This is an easyDIY for anyone! My 2003 Toyota Tacoma Prerunner blows ice cold again.

I looked at the price of the OEM blower assembly, and was happy to get such a good deal on this. It bolted right in my 2003 Toyota Tacoma in a few minutes and worked like a champ. That was the end of October 2011. Now it’s March and the fan is noisy like it’s not rotating smoothly, or maybe not balanced well. It’s the exact same noise I noticed on the OEM blower I had right before it went out. Even if it doesn’t go out completely, it makes enough noise that I am going to replace it out of annoyance. So, this is a good price, but I was hoping it would last more than 6 months. 🙁 I think I might just buy a higher priced one this time and hope I get 8 years out of it like I did on my OEM blower.

So, I never got around to ordering a new blower motor, and it’s still holding up today. Just as noisy as my previous review, so it’s been annoying for years. But, other than the noise, it has been working fine.

Solidly built. Fit is perfect for my 2003 Toyota Tacoma Double Cab. I had to replace mine as a squirrel built a nest in the system. Ended up binding and destroying the blower motor and resistor. I cleaned as much newspaper and fluff as i could find and vacuum out and replaced it with this.
Nice and quiet at first, got a loud wobble sound a few minutes later. Pulled it again and found even more fluff. Unfortunately, that second round of crud must have not made the motor happy/slightly unbalanced it. Now even when it’s clean (i’ve checked a few more times) there’s still a slight grind/wobble/sound coming from it. Much better than no fan at all and another $100 in my pocket over buying an OEM one. So i’m 4-stars happy with the purchase. I have no doubts about this motor working fine for a long time.
*Pro-tip, if your old motor blew from debris build up, also pull the resistor from about 6 inches to the left of the blower. Two screws. Shine a light in there and you’ll probably see more crud built up. I’m betting that’s where the second round of fluff came from. That, and fish out your evap drain… it’s probably plugged and spewing condensate all over your passenger floor when the AC runs. Yayyyyyy squirrels!

Excellent product. Installation took about 5 minutes. 3 8mm bolts and 1 connector. This motor is very strong. Night and Day difference between the new motor and the old one. Local auto part store quoted me $55 for the TYC. Got it here for $43 delivered.

Note when Diagnosing…
Check fan wire/plug connector on your truck for corrosion damage so you don’t burn up new fan.
I was smelling burning plastic, decided to pull and bench test old fan.
Found fan wire/connector melted as they were oxidized causing poor connection, also
turning fan by hand, bearing was starting to wearing out from lack of lubrication.
Replaced and repaired wire/connector from truck to new fan. Works great.
