I bought this bearing for a child’s toy. I washed off the original grease coating and put on a light coating of food-safe silicon oil. This new toy demonstrates a lot of things:
— It’s an actual vehicle part that most people don’t see.
— Everything’s rolling, so little friction with little heat and wear. This is why bearings are so important.
— Roller bearings support more weight than the ball bearings in a bicycle because there’s more surface contact.
— The conical shell makes it possible to adjust bearing tightness (like in a bicycle).
— It demonstrates planetary gears. Hold the inner shell. The bearing cage moves at a lower speed than the outer shell.
— And you can spin it around your finger.
