  1. Dawn Towns

I Accidentally wrote a review for wrong item not this one for fuel pump please disregard an unhappy review sorry

  2. Amazon Customer Robert

New pump arrived and I did the work to install. Tried to start boat and no dice. Did all required test as I did before to isolate problem. Good 12V to pump. Hooked pump direct to battery and no fuel flow or fuel pressure.

So pulled it all apart for a second time and bench tested pump with direct to pump connection and pump seemed to be working.

So installed pump back into VST tank, but this time I used the OEM wire harness instead of the new wire harness that was sent with the pump.

Bench tested the pump using VST tank connector and this time pump seemed to be working.

Re-sealed VST tank and let it set for 24 hrs for sealer to set up as sealer instructions stated. Installed VST tank on intake and motor but did not torque everything down, reconnected all fuel line connections.

Next I used factory manual recommended fuel test procedure to be sure I had no leaks on the fuel connections.

I am not going to give details for that procedure, you need to get the factory manual or look it up online.

    ———————————–

All seemed good so I torqued all bolts and checked all sensor connections and finished it to the point I could test run it including using the fuel prime bulb to prime it completely.

Turned the key and tried starting engine and it fired right up and ran fine.

In the end, the new pump worked, but included wire harness did not, so here is my advice to you.

If you buy this pump, bench test it before you do all the work to install it.

First hook the pump up to 12V power and test it. Make sure you get the 12V + and 12V – connection right.

Apply power briefly for only a few seconds. If the new pump spins, install it into your VST tank, then before you seal the VST tank bench test it again but I suggest you use your volt-ohm meter in continuity mode to first check the connectors so you can be sure you know the difference between the 12V + and 12V – connectors on your VST tank connector.

Apply power for a few seconds, If pump seems to be working do the rest of the install to the point you can test fire your motor.

If motor starts your good to go. There should be no problems with your motor starting at that point unless you have some other issue with your ECU or sensor connections.

    ———————–

I CAN NOT RECOMMEND THIS PUMP YET AS I DON’T KNOW HOW RELIABLE IT IS GOING TO BE AND THE WIRE HARNESS THAT WAS INCLUDED WAS BAD.

    ———————-

I do recommend you use your original short wire harness to install the new pump as the new wire connectors/harness failed and never worked on the pump I was sent. Package was sealed up and all seemed as new on the pump I was sent.

Another point, the new included wire harness is longer then the original wire harness and is vary stiff making it harder to install in the top of the VST tank.

This new wire harness failure caused me a lot of extra work, but I should have bench tested it all before I sealed up the VST housing and installed everything. Don’t be like me and just install it without bench testing it first.

I did not check fuel pressure it is generating as I do not have the proper fuel pressure checking gauge or system.

I have not yet ran the boat on the water at full speed but have ran it up to 3k RPM and held it there and the motor ran smooth. It will need to be tested on the water under load at full speed and full RPM before I can say it is working perfectly like the OEM pump.

If I have any reliability issues I will update this review.

    ADDED BONUS SECTION BELOW

To all of you who own these new fuel injected motors. If you need a new high pressure fuel pump, the cause was probably letting your boat set with fuel in the VST tank. If you look at the connections on the bottom of the VST tank you will see a fuel drain system. You probably did not know about this drain system, because unless you took your lower shroud off the intake side of your motor you did not see it.

Of course your dealer did not warn you about this fuel drain system, because he makes many thousands of $$ from people like you and me to don’t properly drain all the fuel from this VST tank. This results in the high pressure pump going bad due to old fuel muking up the pump and probably also the fuel pressure regulator.

After storing your boat/motor with out draining the VST tank, your motor will not start, Dealer gets to charge you about a thousand bucks to fix this problem with all the needed parts, the OEM 400.00 cost of the pump and the labor. Sweet deal for him and easy $$ he makes from you just by not informing you of the need to drain the VST tank. Silence is “gold” for him but not for you.

I thought all I needed to do was pull fuel fitting from my motor at the dock and let motor run out of fuel and I was fine to then store my boat and motor. WRONG. You need to pull that lower shroud and drain your VST tank if your going to do it right in order to store your boat and motor.

I drilled 2 holes in my lower shroud so I could stick a screw driver in there and reach the drain screw without needing to remove the lower shroud.

The lower hole is to let the drain hose exit the lower shroud so the fuel from the VST tank does not drain into the motor shroud.

This simple mod allows me to “easily” drain all fuel from my motor before storing my boat and be confident I will not have to buy another high pressure fuel pump and go through this again.

    ———————–

Almost every brand of boat motor uses this same VST tank design and has this same type of VST tank drain system. So this exact drain procedure should work for the Suzuki DF series of motors and Yamaha’s, Mercuries and any other motor.

So ask your buddies who run any other type of motor if they really do know how to drain all fuel from their boat motor. If they say sure, just run it dry and store the boat/motor you can say WRONG. You gotta drain your fuel injection system like this and help them look up the fuel injection system diagram online.

Point out the VST tank drain on their system and tell them how and why they need to drain that VST tank or they could be going through their boats not starting & pump replacement like me, and you?

BE THE MAN and spread the word about the need to drain any fuel injected boat motor VST tank before storing the boat/motor. After you tell your buddies make them buy the pizza and beer as they all “owe” you big time.

  3. Steve

Installed in 2020 and so far so good. No issues.

  4. Hank Maddox

    Working fine

  5. Theodore S Robinson

Used this on my Suzuki DF60 outboard motor. Suzuki wanted $360 for the exact same pump. Fit and worked perfect.

  6. Who

Exact replacement works as it should.

  7. JULIE C

Part looked exactly like the factory one. Worked great for four hours. I am glad I added the towing to my boat insurance!

  8. Ralph riffle

It got here on time and works great.
