Ammeters are not a common guage to many new dashboards but I like having it. REMEMBER to use heavy guage wire that can handle the current load and you will be just fine. Also it is really obvious if you wire this backwards but this guage is durable and works like a charm. I do wish it did have a better system for insulating around the back of the guage as on older cars there is a lot of metal and if you arc arcross the posts on the back you will know about it really quick. It is simple to install though but take your time to make sure everything is insulated and covered and you will be just fine. I am running a small alternator pushing out 20 amps so this worked perfect for me. Maybe I am just old school but I like having a volt guage as well as an ammeter so I know my charging system is statying healthy.

I hooked this up as a replacement for an old, tired gage in my boat. Works perfectly and looks sharp!

I bought this Ammeter for a specific purpose. I have an older 2nd car that keeps draining the battery. If the car sits for a couple of weeks, I have dead battery
Sometimes it can even be 3 or 4 days. Anyway, most of the mechanics say all of their tests don’t show any problems with the electrical system. If I drive the car everyday, I have no problems. I am on the 3rd new battery in less than a year. I think the car is killing the cells in the battery because it drains them so low. ( at least according to Sears technician)
I decided to come up with my own testing process. Most Multi Purpose Meters do not measure high DC current. Most only go up to about 1/2 to maybe 2 amps, unless you get into really expensive vom’s
Anyway, I put this one in line to check the battery drain. Sure enough it shows a constant drain of about 2 to 5 amps. I am pulling the fuses one by one to narrow down the problem. One issue is that one fuse may control 3 or 4 different devices, but at least I will be able to narrow it down to 3 devices.
The only problem with this meter is that is based on a 60 amp scale so it makes it hard to read low amp ratings accurately. That would not be a problem for most people, but I wish I had ordered the one with the 30 amp scale. That way the needle would move more for a low amp reading.
Again, there is nothing wrong with the meter, but for my specific need, I would get the 30 amp version. I couldn’t find any meters like this in the auto parts stores around here. They all had volt meters, but no ammeters. This one will work fine for you if you need an ammeter. It does have a lighted dial, and mounting bracket for the car.
