Quick note: On an ’02-06 CRV, this unit replaces the lift support which attaches to the back of the CRV and the bottom of the tailgate (rear door with spare tire attached.) It does not replace the support for the glass window which swings up from the tailgate.
The original support on our Honda CRV had given up the ghost and we quickly grew tired of the tailgate swinging shut on us as we loaded or unloaded stuff from the back of the vehicle. Did a little research and found this Lift Support listed as an exact match for the original equipment, so placed the order.
Install is very simply. The support is held to the rear of the vehicle by one bolt and to the door by two other bolts. I used a socket wrench to remove them all, threw away the old (and very dirty) original lift support, and installed this replacement by setting it in place and re-tightening the bolts. Took maybe 5 minutes total.
This support works just as well as I remember the original one working. It holds the door open when it is partway open and also will push it all the way to fully open once it gets about 80% of the way there. Very happy that the tailgate will no longer swing shut on us if we park on the slightest of inclines.
I believe 2002-2006 Honda CRVs are the same design, so this should fit perfectly with any of those model years.

This is after market and not as heavy duty as the original. So far, it works well and holds the door open while I put my walker into the back of my Honda.

works fine … price was right … the one on my Honda finally went out, but my car is a 2002… when I called Napa for one, they quoted me $80…. say “what???’ .. so I ordered this one … problem was they would NOT ship to Hawaii …. bummer , but I shipped it to my in-laws and they shipped it over to me … well see how long it lasts … so far its been working well, have had it 2 months now ..

Not sure if mine was defective but this arm did not work like the OEM part. While there was some hydraulic operation the part failed miserably closing the door by not dampening properly. On level ground I could have kept this unit and saved the thirty dollars cost difference and lived with it but opening the door on slopes my safety was worth more than that. Other reviews stated their units worked like the OEM so I returned it as defective. Amazon asked no questions and I purchased the OEM which works perfectly.

It is a perfect fit for my CR-V and does a fine job of holding the door open. The problem is that the bushing in the hole fell apart within the first week of use. Now unless you are very careful opening the door, the support will pop off and you’ll have to realign the parts to put it back together. It’s a real pain in the butt – that was the main reason I replaced the OEM version (which lasted 10 years)

Quick fix and no need to U-tube how! Works the same as it did 16 years ago when new. Perfect fit for our 2004 CRV. Less than 1/2 price of Honda part.
