Paint was chipped. That’s about the only negative thing I can say!

Got this for my son’s 2000 Cherokee. Nice build quality and much more sturdy than the stock bracket, but the holes did not line up! Ended up having to drill out the holes to 5/8″ to make it work.

This bracket definitely adds some stability to the steering box. As seen in my pictures the original bracket had been destroyed from the 4″ steel bumper we have that is ramming trees daily. The sub frame is pretty bent up on mine and that was how the original one got destroyed. Even with all the damage to my XJ and the added bracket for the front bumper stability, this thing lined up perfectly. I already had a bolt in the rear bolt location that does not go in to the gearbox so it worked out great. Make sure you check your sub-frame is straight or at least not terribly bent. As a general rule for any installation, make sure you thread in the bolts a couple threads but leave them loose until you have all the bolts in. For mine, We had already replaced the stock bolts with longer grade 8 bolts from a hardware store because of the ¼” plate bumper so we didn’t have any issues with the bolt length. I used a piece of hanging wire to hold the gearbox up while performing the install by myself. Overall the installation took about 30 minutes and went great. After you install this and drive for about 30 minutes it’s a good idea to check and re-torque the bolts as needed because it will seat in and settle due to the excessive movement and force. Overall very satisfied and as always, I will update the review if anything changes down the road.

The brace arrived clean and well assembled. Upon installation, the spacer holes did not lineup properly causing slight binding and inability to insert /start one bolt if 2 out of 3 were inserted. This would have necessitated to grind and make clearance to have the mounting bolts fit through easily and mount the gearbox. I noticed while everything sat on the workbench, if you inserted all 3 mounting bolts fully through the brace and use the slack to start all of the 3 bolts. This allowed for the brace to be slid down with a slight force. The trick is to barely thread the 3 bolts when installing. That allowed the brace and gear Box to be pulled into placement.

Fit perfect on my 96. Every lined up perfectly with the 3 holes for the steering box and the 4th unused home hole that’s already there from the factory. I really like the addition of the 4th bolt hole, seems it’ll distribute the load through the frame better. Install is as simple as the OEM spacer. Functions better than OEM for sure.

For installation here’s a tip. Use a punch or thinner bolt and put two through the bracket to keep the holes aligned and guide the steering box. Then put the steering box up there and use the same punch or thin bolt though two of the steering box mounts to keep that aligned and to hold some of the weight. At this point you’ll be able to just hold the box with one hand because the guides will be supporting most of the weight. Then use the correct bolt for the 3rd empty hole. Once that’s threaded in a bit, enough that the box is supported but able to be positioned still, remove one of the two guides that you used and thread in a correct bolt. Then finish with the 3rd guide and bolt.

Don’t forget the steering shaft. If you leave the bolts loose there’s enough movement to be able to get the steering shaft on at this point.

The picture I posted shows the install and the 4th bolt hole for extra support

    10/10
    5 stars for sure.

Does the job but had to ream holes in order to fit, fabrication QC could be better

  7. Nathan Blanton

Way batter than the stock spacer. Fought me going in but learned you need to start with the top bolt and then do the two bottom ones

  8. TinkerNut

As many others mentioned, the holes in this thing don’t line up very well.

You’ll eventually get it to line up. I was terrified I’d strip out the steering box in my XJ as you’re getting this thing to grab only a thread on one of the three bolts as you’re trying to pull this thing in. One of the most frustrating installations of a component I’ve ever installed.

Additionally, it’s just a triangle with some round stock welded at the points. There should be PLENTY of slop allowed to let this mount, but nope. It’s extremely tight and nerve-wracking.

Although the product seems to be sturdy and well built. The holes are not spaced accurately and it does not fit.
