Get plyers and grab inside to turn ignition all the way towards you and line up key with inside key cylinder. Flat on flat, round on round. And yes the e clip stays on.

This lock cylinder was a waste of time and money for my 2000 Focus – you can’t key it yourself and the transponder key that you need to use (it comes with a dumb key) wont fit. Save yourself the time and money and get a Strattec kit for the same price – it’s what I ended up doing, I just wish I’d done some more research first and didn’t pay twice!

I actually bought this exact part number from a different store, but the transponder keys would not work with my 1999 Cougar. The keys supplied with this lock cylinder are the eight pin type instead of the original equipment ten-pin key. I was able to re-key this ignition lock cylinder to match my doors. The first six positions on the key, starting at the base, are for the doors. The last seven are for the ignition. That means that the first three pins (or wafers) of the ignition lock cylinder match up with the last three of the door lock cylinders. I had a locksmith cut a correct transponder key blank by pin number and hook up his laptop to program a second key. Even though I had the locksmith cut a key that came with this lock cylinder to work with my new pins, the PATS-II system wouldn’t accept the chip. But I was able to program in a different transponder key using my two working keys. Take it or leave it, in my experience, it’s the wrong type of key for my Cougar, and the PATS-II system wouldn’t accept the transponder.
