Replacing my old cam sensor magnet due to intermittent random misfire . Installed new cam sensor magnet , car would not run or start . Reinstalled my old one , car started right up and ran fine . Unfortunately oem is discontinued . Not many options

Have had 2 of these Standard Motor Products PC824 Camshaft Position Sensors fail in a very short time. One was probably bad right out of the box as had problems shortly after installing it. The magnet was not glued into the plastic housing which allowed the magnet to spin when it wasn’t supposed to. In the other one, the magnet showed cracks.

I worked at Chrysler for 30+ years, I usually order factory original parts but this is no longer produced by MOPAR. The target magnet shown has two versions, one used up until 2003, and one used after that. They LOOK IDENTICAL but the number of magnet segments in the part are vastly different. After installing this part and my car wouldn’t start I used a factory scan tool and it showed cam / crank variance of 286 degrees, should be less than ten. Replaced with the original car started and ran fine, suspect the wrong version in the box even though it showed being for my car a 2005.
