This filter gave me concern when I first installed it into an F150 because the OEM air filters have a cotton batting around the filter and the Spectre filter doesn’t. But after some checking, the Spectre has a ridged rubber that appears to seal based on the tests I did. It hasn’t been in the truck long enough for fuel economy improvement tracking, however there is a noticeable in air flow on acceleration. Which means to me that this filter is allowing more air to flow into the intake. Filter came preoiled and ready to install. Comparing Spectra to the other brand named reusable air filters have small differences. The screen used to hold filter media in place is a little smaller than the other brand, however the actual filter media appears to be the same thickness, and folds. The only other differences I noticed is the color. I have not seen any performance differences between two. Even with the slight differences between the screen wire Gage, this filter should last as long. Another difference is in the recharging kit, the Spectre oil does NOT have color. The dye in the oil is important because it will show the washed filter where it hasn’t been oiled after cleaning it. More caution will be needed to ensure oil coverage on the entire filter.
I think I’ll be saving money in the future not purchasing the Spectre brand air filters… I don’t see how paying more for the other brand reusable air filters would be of benefit. I have the other brand name in a couple of my other vehicles, and those are living up to the “lifetime promise” so they will stay! One has been in for almost 10 years, and OVER a 100,000 miles on it, and it’s still looks good as new. Of course I have serviced it when needed to keep it looking new. Regular servicing is a requirement for BOTH brands.

The difference to a regular paper filter is amazing!
The difference is immediately noticeable. The engine breathes better and picks up better at any and all speeds.
