Midwest Rust kicked my butt on this truck and this aftermarket strap was the salt and lemon to my wounds. After discovering one of my fuel tank straps had totally rusted off, I purchased these as they were much more affordable and had high reviews. Like all the other reviews here stated, removing the rusty bolts and such are a challenge. If you don’t have the patience, just bring it to a shop.

I ended up cutting the old clevis pins because they were fused/rusted to the hinge. Not having any luck looking for replacement clevis pins, i just purchased zinc bolts and nuts to replace them.

The next challenge was getting the straps on; even with a jack holding up the tank (1/5 full) up, i had a really hard time getting the last clevis pin in place as the strap seemed to be just a hair too short.

Took me a Weekend to do with waiting in between PB Blaster soaking, running to the store, troubleshooting and eating rust dust.

    Good luck to you all.

When i had to replace my fuel tank i bought these as well and so glad i did. The holes come a little small but after pushing the stock pins in and out a couple times withe a punch and hammer. They worked great. 2004 toytoa tundra 4×4

This worked perfectly on my 2002 Toyota Tundra, but I made the mistake of trying to remove the old hinge that was still on my truck, it was rusted on there pretty good, and it made a mess. This could have been avoid by just getting some 3/8″ bolts and using them instead of the pins.

I had my mechanic install these so I assume they fit well. He said the hardest part was removing the rusted bolts. These were installed on my 2003 Toyota Tundra SR5 V8. They were half the price of after market straps available locally.

The rear strap on my 2004 Tundra gas tank broke a week ago. I was afraid to drive the truck with almost a full tank of gas the 15 miles to a repair shop in that condition. Having someone tow or transport the truck was cost prohibitive so I ordered these new replacement gas tank straps through Amazon. The straps arrived quicker than I expected (3 days vs. 6-7 days) and I installed them soon after they arrived. My concerns with these straps are the following:

    1. The straps only came with one pin for each strap (the outside pin). The original pin for the inside strap connection would not fit into the new straps. After sanding any rust off the original inside pins, I still had to tap the original pin into the new strap with a hammer and put the installed pin in a vice and wiggled the strap to round out the pin connection on the new strap so the pin would slide in and out of the strap connection without binding.

    2. The included pins for the new straps have a significantly smaller thickness than the original pins on my truck. That really concerns me. I couldn’t use the old outside pin for the rear strap because it was so rusted to the old strap connection that I had to use a reciprocating saw to cut it out.

    3. The straps do not include any gasket to install between the strap and the gas tank. I ordered 10 ft. of 2″ wide Neoprene Rubber Strip 1/16″ thick through Amazon and made the gaskets I needed.

Although this was much cheaper than having someone else fix this problem I found the above issues to be things a shade tree mechanic should consider before deciding to purchase these straps and undertaking this repair job.

Great set for the price. Fit perfectly with a small modification to fit the factory pins.

  8. Firedog

Great product. FIt well. Does not include the pins for the end, or the rubber guards that are on the originals, so I had to swap those over. Otherwise would be 5 stars. Still a great value for the price.

    Fits perfectly no major issues

ST351 model. Fit the 2004 Tundra 4 door V8 4wd. For you DIYers like me–2004 Tundra in Pennsylvania=much frame rust. These straps will be a real bear to get on if you can’t remove the bolt that goes into the frame from the one side of the strap with the bracket. We tried only removing the strap pins but could not get the strap on (the rear tank strap had broken due to rust). Ended up taking truck to local garage who charged $40 to install both straps. Sharing as an FYI of what you might run into if you think this is a simple swap–you might be able to get these straps on if you can unbolt the bracket side of the strap from the frame and can use the bolt to tighten the straps.
