Something was draining the battery on my 2004 Chevy Silverado that will not pass inspection, but I use for plowing on my property. My mechanic suggested a battery disconnect which I was not aware of it. This disconnect was for a side terminal battery and it was easy to install. I returned the same style to local auto parts store that was for a side terminal and three times more the cost! I would have purhcased local for a bit more, but not three times more.

Straight forward to install (on the negative terminal). This (pictured) version is for battery posts on the side of the battery. The only tool needed was a socket wrench (15mm socket for the included bolts). We use it to prevent phantom battery drain in a vehicle kept at a vacation home that we visit every 3-4 months. Construction of the switch is sturdy and the knife-blade is held very firmly by the receiving clasp when the circuit is closed–it will not open on it’s own through vibration/driving. This could be used as an anti-theft deterrent to prevent ignition hot-wiring, but if the would-be thieves opened the hood, they may identify it…of course one could extend the negative run and hide this in a less visible location, but more often then not, they don’t take their time when trying to steal vehicles and would likely move on without even opening the hood, so, in my opinion this doubles as a cheap, (reasonably effective, but easy to defeat if found) anti-theft device.

The only thing negative I can say about this is that I can’t really tell how the metal is coated and how durable it may be over time. Obviously the switch area is not coated but the body and bolt area is colored with something, just not sure what it is.
Would I buy it again? Yes, I would. I’ve had the threaded knob battery cut offs and they become unreliable and often take more time to operate than I want to spend. This is due to the nylon threaded portion that buffers the screw. This design is as a simple as it gets and as quick as anyone can expect. Essentially no more difficult than a light switch. The tension is good, no voltage loss noted, and is very positive on/off. Worth every penny.

This is a simple design and it works well. Prior to this one I was using one of the two piece, screw together in the middle style, and that one failed when the threads stripped after repeated use. This knife switch style shouldn’t have that problem and I like that there is nothing to lose when disconnected.

This product worked well on a 1998 Chevy K1500.
I was doing several electrical projects on the truck that required disconnecting the battery. I used this knife switch to save time disconnecting and reconnecting the battery. It worked wonderfully for that purpose.
The only issue that I had with this product is that the bolt backed out of the battery with some vibration from driving. It was probably because I didn’t tighten it down very snugly (No reason to strip the threads on the battery) and it worked its way free. This product would be better if it had the locking tabs like the factory battery connector has.
I wouldn’t use it for daily use, but it was great to have while I was doing wiring projects. No regrets in buying it.

These work good. I bought 3. One for each of my trucks. I don’t drive certain trucks all the time so this is a quick fix to unhook the battery and keep it from going dead. I just add a little dielectric grease to it and I’ve not had any issues.

Works awesome easy to install.. I put it on a Chevy Avalanche.. also great for security on your vehicle if you’re not using it all the time May not work obviously if you are using an alarm system because you’re using it to shut off the power but at least it can’t start the car unless a open the hood. I like it. couldn’t be any easier unless it was inside your vehicle 😀
