For me, it’s more important to change the fluid more often, than spending a small fortune on super expensive trans-fluid. Actually, at $7.xx bucks per quart, it’s not that cheap !!! So, I hope my E-350 4-Matic 5 Speed Benz will be good to me for many miles and many years to come. It only took 4 and 1/2 quarts of this fluid to do the job, even with removing the pan, a new filter, and a long drain time. No shifting or any other problems afterward. I did this job only for mileage/ maintenance, Thank You, Amazon, and your suppliers for great products and great prices !!!

The Mercedes dealers want a fortune for MB spec trans fluid. The Shell 134 is much less cost and is the same spec. I already use Shell Rotella oil & coolant in my vehicles, so I know the Shell 134 will be good too!

Pretty hard to find 134 transmission fluid at your local parts store. Installed 4 quarts into a Mercedes-Benz SLK 230. So far have not had any problems with shifting. If you’re transmission calls for 134 I believe this product should work just fine for your application.

Mercedes-recommended fluid for ML 320 w163 722.6 transmission. You will remove about 3.5 to 4 quarts with a simple draining of the pan (about 50% or less of the fluid in the transmission and the torque converter) so if you buy two 1/2 cases of ATF (12 bottles) you can replace the fluid three times to properly dilute the old fluid (with a day or two of driving in between each draining to fully mix the fluid in the tranny and the torque converter). Drop the pan to clean it, replace the filter, and inspect the magnet the first time you change the fluid if you had experienced hard shifting (otherwise do it the last time). For the other two changes simply drain the pan and refill. This service will be almost equivalent to a “transmission flush” and your tranny will love it. At the minimum, drain and refill the tranny three times to renew your ATF fluid at 40K miles and do the full service with filter and gasket replacement at 80K miles.
You need to measure the amount of fluid every time you drain the transmission and replace with exact amount of new fluid (assuming that you have no leaks). I found these additional items useful for this job – all purchased through Amazon:

Dorman 917-321 Transmission Fluid Dipstick Tool (you need this to check the fluid level at two temperatures – “cold” and “hot” – but you need to have the engine running! – also the dipstick does not insert fully into the fill tube; there is about a foot left out when it terminates and this is normal; you need to wiggle a bit to make it navigate the turns of the fill tube)
5. Dorman 917-299 Transmission Filler Lock Pin – package of five (in case you want to lock your fill pipe cover again)
6. Transmission Drain Plug (10 mm Shaft Diameter) (if necessary)
You should also inspect your 13 pin connector for leaks (located in the upper front right – passenger side – corner of the transmission) and replace if necessary with: Mercedes Transmission 13-Pin Connector Adapter Plug + O-rings Genuine 722.6xx

These bottles ship as neatly re-sealed and securely re-packaged NEW original containers, of course with NEW fluid inside. Seller simply takes the extra precautionary step of placing a plastic film around each neck and replacing the cap, and also bagging each quart, before boxing. A very nice idea, one that makes double sure that you get every drop you ordered, and nobody faces a sloppy mess in transit, etc., thank you very much!
What you’ll get: Fresh new clean ATF fluid that your car’s transmission deserves and needs, to keep happily shifting day after day. If you’ve got more than 40,000 miles on your existing transmission fluid, it’s time. Example: 2004 C240…there’s typically 4 quarts in the pan itself, and another half dozen or so in the torque converter. Note, there’s a full quart left in the pan after draining because it’s female plug-housing stands up about 1/4-inch up inside the pan…so typically only THREE quarts drain out when plug is removed. That’s convenient, as this Amazon item ships 6 quarts……i routinely drain twice, once before and once after driving a few days in-between. In other words, i cannot FULLY flush the system myself all in one shot, so my goal is to improve the overall mix every year using this approach. Every 50,000 miles, my transmission pan comes off to fit a fresh filter and pan gasket, and inspection of the pan’s little magnet fragment grabber, for completeness. Entire process takes about an hour. Just measure what comes out, and replace that same amount into the correct under-hood orifice. There are two, one for engine oil, one for transmission fluid. The engine oil tube is easy to reach, while the transmission tube is hidden against the firewall requiring yank intake filter housing…a good time to swap those air intake filters while yeratit.
Do Not try this (can you say: disclaimer?), but when it’s that time, i typically back out my driveway and turn the wheel until my front driver’s side tire is almost on the curb in front of my house, then set all brakes, put in park, and avoid any need for jackstands, etc., with plenty of space to work the old catbox under my very stable and locked vehicle. Afterwards, i just gotta remember to pull forward so i don’t damage undercarriage bodywork. Adhere to all vehicle manufacturer’s service guidelines and specifications. Again, DO NOT EVER do what i do ;-).
Lastly, however you manage to reach or crawl under your Mercedes, you may want to invest in this (yes, i know it’s for a bicycle) TOOL: Shimano TL-FC23 Torx Tool, as it gives both T30 torx and 5mm AllenHex tips which you’ll need to service that stock transmission pan. I also dab blue Loctite on tips of each T30 pan-securing bolt during reassembly, not the drain plug…it has a crush washer (arguably reusable at least once or twice).
