We used the SEM line of Vinyl Paint products on our boat seats. SEM Soap, SEM Prep, SEM Red Vinyl Paint, and SEM White Vinyl Paint (several thin coats of each), then SEM Tac Free. We did everything according to directions and all turned out great. Also used the SEM Repair Kit and it turned out great too. Took boat out last weekend, everyone thought the seats were reupholstered. Really a good product. FOLLOW DIRECTIONS!!!

Some vehicles have a problem with plasticizer migration over a period of time in the heat. (Photo before treatment.) Once that happens, your dashboard will be super sticky, at first on hot days and then permanently. I was not able to remove all the stuck fuzzies before I used this product. Just watch the videos on the manufacturers site to become familiar with it. This is a clear satin elastomeric product. It works exactly as intended. If you heavily overspray on a smooth surface, you can carefully score at the border and then just peel up the overspray. This is useful, especially in the narrow nook underneath the windshield. I’m not submitting an instructional video as each case is slightly different. For my case I did the initial spray, even with the fuzzy’s that I couldn’t remove. It stopped the plasticizer migration and took the stickiness away . I have more work to do at the lead edge rolled forward underneath the glass where the damage is greatest and the access most difficult, impinged. This does dry very fast so you might consider doing it on 70-75 deg day, early morning, or go park in the shade. Leave your windows open and open the doors , and of course do not apply in rainy conditions. Mine is cured so I will buff out any standing fuzzys now that it’s not sticky and I can get near it. Considering a sweater shaver for any tall and stubborn. Don’t buff too hard or you’ll peel it up. Like any paint or spray product, you will either apply a second light coat after a short period of time, evenly and thoroughly, or you will need to wait until after the 48 hour cure time. don’t worry about overspray on your glass as you can scrape it off with a plastic razor. If you’re working up at the forward lead edge, you won’t have enough room to tape things off and most people can’t remove the windshield to do this work.

DO NOT BUY. The manufacturing on these cans is absolute garbage. It does not spray evenly and constantly spits a stream out leaving long blotchy spots of over-applied clear coat. Also stops spraying with the can still 80% full. Nothing better than spending an exorbitant amount of time and effort to painstakingly paint something to look good only to be ruined at the final step. Whoever manufactures these cans doesn’t belong in business.

I painted a pair of very old car door handles with SEM black. They looked good but they were sticky. No one wants to grab a sticky door handle. I read a bunch of negative reviews of Tac Free so I was honestly a little hesitant. However, I did not get any white streaks as others have experienced. Be sure to shake the can for two minutes, apply one light coat followed by one medium coat.

I repainted the interior of my car using a combination of different manufacturer’s paint and clear coat (not supposed to but I did) because I needed the exact color of my interior but they didn’t offer the clear coat. Neither of these products were SEM. So when the vinyl components had a tacky feel, and then later a sticky feel when the car heated up in the sun, I knew I had to do something. So I found this and tried it and I’m glad it worked. I was concerned that too much time had past from painting (a couple of months) or that it wouldn’t work because neither my paint or clear coat were SEM products, but it worked wonderfully. Plus it took some of the shine out also and gave it more of a satin look, which I ‘m completely fine with. My interior was a dark blue in a Monte Carlo and I did not have the white film problem I see others have. Just to be clear I painted my upper vinyl door panels, arm rests, door pulls, and steering wheel. I did follow the SEM repainting process (cleaning is the key) and used the Sem vinyl prep. NOTE: you have to use thin coats of this stuff. If it sprays on too thick it will mess your paint job up. I had a nozzle on one of the cans start spraying more of a stream pattern than a fine mist. Once I switch it out with another nozzle off of a paint can it was fine. But I had to repaint one part because the color shifted where it went on too thick.

I was looking forward to this product to put a final coat on my boat seats. However, 2 out of the 3 cans will not spray. Haven’t even tried the third can yet, as I am incredibly frustrated. The first can froze up immediately and the second can I was only able to use just under half the can and it froze up. I even tried different nozzles with no luck. Is there another company that has a similar product, as I am willing to jump ship? Is this a common theme with this product?
Update: A refund was given for all 3 cans cans with the expectation to reorder replacements.
I did order another 3 cans and all three new cans worked flawlessly. Appreciate the customer service and the quick turn around time. I changed my rating from one star to three.
