Given the “proper” fix is a new cat assembly, this was a cheap way out of a failed flexi coupling on our 2013 equinox 2.4. I cut the old flex out right at the transition to the stainless bellows on the cat side and unbolted the flange just past it. I then cut the old flex from the flange and welded the new flex to the cleaned-up flange and used a standard 2.5” stainless exhaust clamp to fasten onto the cat outlet side. With a new Fel-Pro 61841 gasket, I then bolted the outlet side flange up using a new set of M10 nuts/bolts. Our Equinox no longer has loud exhaust and fumes entering the cabin!

First, the pros: this thing is fairly stout. It seems to be well-made. The welds aren’t works of art, but they’re decent and complete. Remember, this is an exhaust pipe (usually going under your car); i didn’t expect a museum piece.

The cons: the ‘stoutness’ of this piece makes it almost inflexible. You’ll be lucky if you get more than 1/2”-1” of waggle out of it, and that’s with really reefing on it. Also, the ID is a little too large/sloppy for my application. It claims to be 2.5”, but it’s almost 2-5/8’s. In the photos, you will see a 2.53” pipe inserted into with, with quite a decent gap between the two.

Unfortunately, I missed my opportunity window to return the product, but for only $24, it is one of my more inexpensive mistakes. It just stinks that the company’s description is not quite accurate, and now I can’t use it. You’ve been warned!

My 2006 2.4L HHR had the dreaded hole in the flex-pipe, so I bought this to replace it. Initially, my plan was to cut off the old one (leaving about a 1.5″ length of “stump” pipe) and clamp on this new one. I started out that way, but one problem with that is the size of the pipe (outer diameter 2.5″) is too large to clamp onto the OEM pipe (outer diameter 2.25″). I ended up using an intermediate size (2.25″ INNER diameter) pipe about 1.5 inches long and eventually slipped the new flex-pipe over that. I say eventually, because it required expanding the pipe on the flex-pipe piece with a pipe-expander (available to borrow at any Autozone, O’Reilly’s, etc.) a bit to get it to fit. I had all that in place and had a 2.5″ clamp to clamp it in place, but it wouldn’t clamp tight enough to get it to feel “on there” let alone have it seal, so I eventually had to find someone to weld it for me. All good now.

If I had to do it again and didn’t know someone with a welder, I’d use an adapter section of pipe (available at Autozone, O’Reilly’s) to size it down to the right size. That requires two clamps, of course, one for the big end and one for the smaller end. Even then, because of the short length of pipe we’re dealing with, you’ll first need to cut a bit of pipe from the new flex-pipe to make room. The pipe cutters are also available to borrow from Autozone, O’Reilly’s, etc. There’s maybe 2 inches of “play” in the OEM cat-back exhaust so that you don’t have to be perfectly precise in length, but you do have to get the orientation right.

The larger point–and the reason it doesn’t get 5 stars is that this could have been so much easier if the manufacturer had just used the correct sized pipe.

Still going strong a few month later. Fit perfect and exhaust no longer rattles from the original broken flex pipe.

4 years on my car and still going strong.

Not an expert but the item looks rugged enough and built very well and the flexibility helped, For the price it was worth it..Now I will have to see how long it lasts…The car is not a daily driver.

Got a 2011 chevy equinox. Flex pipe was coming apart and the 2 parts that bolt exhaust together the gasket was blowing out. Exhaust was loud and sounded bad. I cut in front of flex pipe and behind where the flange is that bolts them together and took off hanger. Used this and a 5 inch 2.5 exhaust pipe and 2 2 5/8 clamps and a 2.5 inch butt clamp and fixed my exhaust leak. Well worth it. Glad i did it.
