DB works great! Installed in about four hours in ’04 Element. Biggest difficulty was leverage on large starter bolt. It’s tight, get a long ratchet, breaker bar or have a pipe on hand. Also, you’ll have a blind-grab on the lower manifold bolt and it may be layered with rust. Get a small ratchet for this lower manifold bolt. If you take the manifold completely off, one of the connectors is a bi@#$, however, you increase your leverage a bit.

Starter action is slightly different from OEM but worth the 300+ dollar savings. If you change throttle body gasket you will need to scrape off the old one. Not fun. Didn’t use a torque wrench because I didn’t have torque specs, but wise if you can obtain all of them. Have good lighting, some latex gloves and a 12 pack for a job well done. Old starter was packed with carbon dust at 100K and 11years.

Fit on my 2005 Honda Accord 5 speed manual. Bought this for my daughter who took it to a mechanic to put it on. It didn’t look exactly like the original equipment so he didn’t install it but still charged her $155. I didn’t believe him so I did it myself on a Saturday morning and it bolted right in no issues. The only difference is the electrical connections are a couple of inches closer to the flywheel so I had to cut a little electrical tape to get them to reach. Works better now than the original starter, seems to crank much stronger than the old one ever did. Anyways, works perfect, fit no problem, easy to install – took me 1 1/2 hours after I watched a quick youtube video of a guy doing it so save yourself the headaches of a mechanic telling you it won’t fit and do it yourself!

Bought and installed this starter in early November. After two months, my 2005 Element hasn’t hesitated or balked on a single start. In my opinion, this starter is just as good as a factory original – at a fraction of the price (and much cheaper here than what my local auto parts stores were charging). As everybody cautioned me before this repair job – replacing the starter on an Element is a real, but doable, challenge. I’d recommend watching several Youtube videos on this particular repair job first and gather all the necessary tools up front (the videos tell you which tools/sizes are best), including the specialty pliers to remove the undercarriage cover. Then view one of the videos alongside you as you do the repair and take your time. The two biggest challenges were breaking loose a stubborn bolt and reinserting the rear bolt blindly and with your fingertips (keep trying on this bolt and you’ll eventually stumble upon lining it up with the hole/threads). This job saved me about $850 at the shop and took about 6 man hours (I may have done it faster, but I was intentionally trying not to rush as I’d never done this particular repair before). By the way, I replaced the starter from the “bottom of the vehicle” approach. Overall, excellent starter and I’d recommend it to anyone.

Installed it and car starts again. I will update this review in the future, maybe every year or so for everyone to know how long these things last. Hopefully they last a few years as it’s a little bit of a headache replacing a honda element starter as it’s buried behind the intake manifold and is much tighter to get to than a crv start which I also replaced recently and is also behind the intake manifold.

Update after 2 years: Still running fine in our Honda Element and starts just like new. The harsh Winters so far did not hurt it at all.

    Product 10 of 10
Installation of Product 2 of 10 really not fun.

As a person that is learning to fix their own things as a way to expand knowledge and skills as well as try to save money I purchased this starter and installed myself after watching many videos of what can only be described as magicians fronting as home mechanics or I’m less handy then I thought I was. Definitely could be the latter. After attempting to remove the bad starter using the underneath method for too many hours to mention or I am proud of and many cuss words muttered I realized defeat and ordered intake manifold gaskets, regrouped as I waited on those to be delivered, then attacked from the top side. It was not without its hiccups but went well. Starter has been installed a couple months now and cranks so good. This is the 3rd time I’ve brought this car back from the dead after it serving as a neglected delivery vehicle before it came home with me. Hopefully I’m done with repairs for awhile and can just enjoy driving this awesome long ago discontinued Honda Element but won’t hesitate to dive in and repair whatever comes at me next. As a plus without a core charge I am planning to learn how and try out rebuilding my old original starter for when I need it and I’d encourage you to do the same.

fits perfect no extra work required. Hope it lasts, doubt it will

  7. Brent

Works perfect fits perfect in my 2003 Honda Element. It’s a common issue so if you are having starting issues just get a new starter.if you are replacing your starter I would recommend getting a new knock sensor seeing a knock sensor is about 20
bucks. Cuz it where your starter is located you’ll need to remove the valve cover to get at it The knock sensor is right next to it. So just replace it while you’re doing it because later on down the road if you’re not sensor goes out you’re going to be spending the same amount of money for labor. Just for a small sensor.

Overall this product fits perfect and is really good price compared to a many local places.

Part appears to be identical to part it replaced on my 2004 Honda Element EX which was developing an intermittent and/or sluggish crank that was not related to the battery. This replacement cranks the engine dramatically faster. Has been working fine for several months now. Replacement was not too hard in this year of Element due to the absence of the resonator box under the intake manifold that is present in newer model years. I could not separate the intake manifold from the throttle body but I managed to maneuver the entire assembly up and to the side to gain enough room to access the starter from above.

  9. AP user

If you have a Honda that takes this type of starter and it sounds like your battery is about dead when you start the engine you may need to replace the starter. This was the problem with our Honda Element. The cost of taking this to the dealer for them to do the work as it was out of warranty was beyond our budget. So, check the local auto parts stores and found the starter cost in the $300 range. I searching the internet for a shop manual to help with how to replace this starter when I saw Amazon had this starter. Sure enough I found this starter on Amazon at a fraction of the price from what the local stores asking price, I ordered it and it arrived in 24 hours, Thank you Prime Delivery 🙂

Once I found an online guide to replacing the starter, it took me about 3 hours to replace and install this starter, our Element starts like it’s new.

Excellent fit. Works great. Easy installation. Remove radiator cross frame. Undo intake manifold and set a side with cables and T-body attached.. 2.5 hours. Can be done at home..
