Thank you Redline for the struts! Very easy to install if you do your homework, follow the instructions for Redline, and aren’t afraid to drill into your truck! The struts really compliment the engine compartment and make the engine bay look cleaner! Happy addition to my Tacoma!!

Bought new off amazon back in may 2017, for my 2017 tacoma trd sport, used the hood not more then two or three times, after the last oil change I did noticed the hood wouldnt open up fully or at all. All in all buyer beware. It is most likely a better idea to order directly from the manufacturer (redlinetuning) tried to file a claim with amazon but they insisted that must wait for the company to get back with me regardless. BTW followed install instructions to the T. The struts blew out while hood was closed, dont know how much more the superiority of the elite version is compared to the non stainless version. Wouldnt doubt if both are assembled is china…smh

I just want to start out, that these are kind of a pain to install. The directions were printed in color which was really nice and detailed. Either watch an install video on youtube or read the directions carefully.
The struts felt very durable and came with all the parts and rivets. The directions say to use a 3/16 drill bit, but after drilling out the holes, the rivets were very difficult to push in. I had to drill a little bit larger, but not too much because you do want them to sorta “snap” into the holes and created a snug fit once you pop the rivets in place. Once they’re on , they are on there tight!
When you take your measurements and find placement mount the ball joints, take a measurement again, and again to be absolutely sure otherwise these will not align well. What I thought would of been a 30 minute install, took me a few hours because I was meticulous with each point I marked for drilling, once they’re riveted in to place, I wouldn’t want to drill out the rivets to relocate them.
After an absurdly long install, the struts snapped on the ball joints nice and snug. I would recommend these for anybody with a 3rd Gen Tacoma, just take your time with the measurements and do it right!

So I mistakenly placed the bottom brackets before the 12 1/2″ mark, even after I read the directions and measured several times. Being over meticulous and second guessing myself resulted in the struts not lifting properly and not lifting to propping rod height.
Before I realized my mistake I contacted RedLine Tuning concerned I had bad struts. Their customer service was great and very prompt with responses, even offered to replace the struts whether it was my fault or bad parts. They even sent new #2 multigrip rivets at no charge in the mail (that same day) for re-installation.
I ordered new struts since they sell each component separately or as the kit.I then re-positioned the brackets on the correct location and secured them down, everything then worked as it should have. Ultimately, I have a spare set of quicklifts, and 4 holes that need to be sanded down and patched up.

Installed per instructions, hood does not open as far as OEM. Test first and shift fastening points.
Tacoma sheetmetal the lower strut mounts fasten too is flimsy and these wobble and may pull out; really needs a backing/ spread plate as part of the design! You could make one. Just be forewarned you will probably deform your engine comnpartment sheetmetal interior if you don’t modify the attachment method. And don’t open your hood on a windy day.

Just installed today, so I don’t know how long they will last, but they appear to be well made I bought the stainless steel ones. They were easy to install, came with excellent color instructions with photos and they work as advertised and look good installed. I would purchase these again

I love the detailed instructions, which made the installation fairly easy for me. However, if your not mechanically inclined, you might want a professional to install these hood struts. I suggest a Harbor Freight 17″ inch rivet gun for leverage with these steel rivets. I suggest you measure twice and drill holes precisely once. Additionally, have someone hold open hood as high as it will go for bottom rivet brackets because the 17″ rivet gun handle needs to clear the hood when squeezing the handles together. These hood struts open my 2023 Toyota Tacoma with almost zero effort from me other than a flick of my thumb after latch is unhooked. I highly recommend them.

This was not that difficult to install for me because I have tools and some mechanical ability. Things you will need are: measuring device, center punch, fine tip marker, painters or masking tape, 3/16″ drill bit and drill, touch up paint, and pop rivet device with 5/32″ opening.
I fabricated two pieces of wood trim 12.5″ and 19″ to ensure my measurements were the same for both sides. I also used a #4 step drill bit which drilled the holes a little better for the rivets.
Fit, finish, and function are perfect.
