I was really impressed with the quality and security of this vent mag safe phone holder. There are no good directions on it but once I figured out that both sides screw for secure latching then it all made sense. The magnet is strong and the way that it clips to the vent is very secure and doesn’t move. I’ve had others in the past that just couldn’t stay stable with the way they were clipped on and were constantly moving or seemed like they would break off the plastic on the vent. That is not the case here. If this is the type of item you are looking for you won’t be disappointed.

My first impression was that this box of about 2″ square was very small. But, upon opening, i realized that they just didn’t waste packaging on empty space… So, GREAT! I went down to my 1998 Rav4 with the vents (and no other easy location for phone placement) and, within 2 minutes, figured out how to lock it into the right side vent (the one I can individually turn off). I tested two phones. An iPhone 13 has a protective clear plastic case, and a Moto Edge 2022 also has a thicker clear plastic case.
The iPhone stuck securely and instantly without the need for an additional adhesive magnetic ring that can attach to a more “slippery” phone. My Moto stuck just fine when I removed the case, but there was almost no functional magnetism between the vent mount and the phone when I placed the plastic case back on (see photo of plastic case for the Moto).
Thus, I removed my plastic case, placed on the additional magnetic ring that comes with the kit on my Moto (beneath the plastic case) and then put the plastic case back on and drove around on bumpy roads.
Conclusion: The magnetic car mount is outstanding, and with the iPhone 13 (even with a thin protective after-market case on there, it adheres perfectly well. NO problems. With the Moto, the magnetitism was strong and sure IF i did not have the plastic after-market case on the phone. But, with the plastic case, the magnetism was reduced to non-functional levels (i.e., the phone would swim around on the mount and slip off when vertical). So, I placed the adhesive/magnetic ring included on the Moto (for additional magnetic strength) and replaced the plastic protection. The Moto still swims a bit on the magnetic mount, but it is sure enough for short trips around town without bumps. If I am traveling longer distances, then I’ll simply remove the plastic case, and the Moto will be locked on there super tight.
See the update below. Because I have since placed the magnetic adhesive circle on the phone case itself, rather than the phone, when I place the phone with the case onto the mount it is as solid as can be. If anything, now the phone is locked on so tightly to the mount and it’s hard to get off when I’m done using it.
UPDATE: So far as I can tell, this magnetic circle that attaches to the back of my phone interferes with my ability to charge my phone in my other car wirelessly. thus, it is a significant setback for this device when using multiple cars. My workaround was to detach the adhesive magnetic circle from the back of my phone and instead place it on the outside of my phone case. The adhesive was so strong and nearly pulled the back of my phone off, but I was able to do it, and thankfully, the adhesive was strong enough to then stick to my case that I had cleaned with alcohol just prior. I’m downgrading from five to four stars for this reason because the instructions specifically say to place the circle on the phone and not on the case.
So, there it is. We have four vehicles in the family from distinct generations (from 1980 to 2023). For the older cars where the vent is the only option, this diminutive but totally “solves the problem” …this magnetic vent mount is just what we needed.

This phone mount fits the vents in my Audi well. I like that it holds the phone a bit away from the vent. It also has a rubber back to protect the vent. I have another holder, and the magnet on this one doesn’t seem as strong. I don’t think my phone is going to fall off, but it was something to mention. For the price, I think it’s a good value, and it does the job.
