Incredibly quick shipment. I received the shipment 1 week prior to Amazon showing the expected delivery date. I read previous reviews about how easy people were saying they were to install, but was still a little worried since I had never done anything like that. Being new to the installation process I was expecting for it to take longer than the 10 min. I saw on most reviews. I was amazed because I actually had them installed in less than 5 min. I did take other people’s advise to have something available to assist in holding the hatch up while I worked because the door is heavy. They were super easy to install & the door now lifts up itself and closes great too! Before buying these I priced them out with the local auto stores and these were about $18 less than what I could have bought them for at the local stores. Great Value!!!

Replaced original OEM lift struts on a Nissan Xterra after the old struts were weak after 9 years. These fit perfectly and installed easily in about 5 minutes. Use a flat tip screwdriver to pry up the metal clips at each end of the old lift struts. Clean the ball joints and apply a little grease. Snap the new ones in place over the ball joints. No need to remove the metal clips first on the new ones. If it doesn’t snap into place easily, then just hit it lightly with your hand, which should do it.
Use a ladder to help support and hold up the lift gate to prevent it from falling on your head. It’s easiest to replace one side first then the other. This way when you replace one side, the old strut on the other side is helping to hold up the lift gate.

Bought this pair of supports for my 2005 Xterra. I had the same problem everybody has where the gate wouldn’t hold up at all in weather below 60 degrees. Installation is a snap. Prop up the door with a small ladder and some boards to ensure it doesn’t drop. I recommend completing one side at a time. Use a flat head screw driver to remove the clip locking the already installed support in place. Once that is released simply remove the support. I played with the old one for a second to ensure I didn’t damage the new one when installing. After I got the hang of it, I loosened the locking mechanism and installed the support on the lifted gate first. This allows you to twist the support to engage it on the vehicle. If you install it on the vehicle side first it will be very difficult to turn the extended support as others have pointed out. Highly recommend this product if you are having the cold weather problem.

For the first week or two they worked great, but now they don’t lift the tailgate to the upper most position–just a few inches short of it.

Very simple replacement job on my 06 Xterra, took maybe 10 minutes start to finish. You just need a step ladder, helper, or some other suitably tall support for the lift hatch. Followed the included directions easily and had no problems at all, it couldn’t have been any easier. Lifts are maybe a little bit louder and slower than the original factory part, but are also obviously stronger. And any difference in sound or speed is negligible and well worth the trade off for cost and strength. I would definitely recommend these.

These fit perfectly on my 2005 Xterra. Installation was a snap with a ladder propping up the hatch and a small screwdriver to open up the latches. It took less than a half hour to do it myself. I think it was easier to put the hatch portion on first and then twist slightly to get the bottom one on. I added a little grease on there to keep things moving smoothly. All said, it couldn’t have gone better.

Bought these for a 2009 Nissan Xterra. I am quite impressed not only with the product, but Lift Supports Depot. My order shipped fast, they sent emails (in addition to the Amazon notifications) that my product shipped, and they sent another email with an instructional video as well. This was by far the easiest purchase, shipping, and installation experience I’ve had with online products. I put the new lift supports on in a matter of minutes and they work fantastic. The rear hatch works perfect now and feels far more rigid and secure. No more smashing my head on a half raised hatch. Price was great also.

I was so tired of my XTerra liftgate hitting me in the head when the weather cooled off, but I didn’t want to spend $100+ having the struts replaced at my mechanic’s. These lift supports are the perfect solution! When they were shipped the supplier emailed a video showing how to install them, and printed instructions are also available. A couple things I noticed: on the new supports, it is easier to pry the whole U-shaped clip off, shooting it into the weeds by the driveway, rather than just easing it back slightly per the directions. When this happens to you, watch where it lands so you can put it back on and start over. It was also unexpectedly hard to detach the old supports from the ball holding the socket in place. I had to pull hard, and narrowly avoided smacking myself in the nose when the bracket suddenly came loose. While it would be easier to do the installation with a helper, I just used a ladder to support the hatch while I worked on it. Installation of both supports took me about 20 minutes, including time spent searching for the U clip. The new supports are very strong and work perfectly.
The only real suggestion I’d have is that the supplier raise the price of the item and not charge for shipping. I really hate to pay 30% of the cost of the part for “shipping and handling.” It seems like such a con job.
