These ignition coil packs do have a shorter stem than the original factory ones as you can see in the picture. I read the complaints concerning this before I purchased them. Please note, dont worry, the shorter stem on these that connects to the spark plug does not in any way affect its performance or usefulness. The coil still firmly and securely connects to the spark plugs. Its a great price for these, they work great and I’m satisfied with them so far. I will certainly update if this changes. In the photo the new shorter one is on the left, with the old one on the right. The shorter ones are working great in my 2002 Miata. UPDATE 01/9/21. The vehicle started idling very roughly and doing the check engine light began to flash, however it was drivable and I made it home. The codes were cylinder 2 misfire and MAF circuit low…I figured one code or event had triggered the other. I removed the this from the cylinder two and since it is too short, the connection to the plug in my 2002 Miata wasn’t good enough and so it created some white stuff that prevented the plug from receiving power any more. I replaced this with the original I had removed a year earlier and the car ran perfectly and so I just also removed both of these. These are too short and cannot connect properly to the spark plugs, they worked for a year then “conked out”…..just pass these over and buy the ones that are the correct length.

Quality was fine, but the length of the part to the spark plug was 3 1/4″. They do not reach the spark plug at all. The original part is 4″ long. I sent them back, and that worked fine, too.

These $28 packs worked great on my 2002 Miata (but used the old plug boots). The boots on these are indeed shorter but I just swapped them for the old ones. Very simple – not a big deal. If you do manage to somehow ruin the boot when you pull it off, you can buy a new one for $5. In the old days (so I’m told), the coils packs didn’t even come with plug boots. Also, not an expert, but I don’t recommend using the short ones as that can apparently lead to residue buildup and cause a failure over time. This brings me to my final tip gleaned from other owners – there is a risk of damaging the catalytic converter if you continue driving with the flashing check engine light from misfiring.

I had to swap out the old plastic boots and put them on the new coils. Would have been nice to know this in advance.
Afterwards it works and fits perfectly.

The boot is too short and will not reach the spark plug. Do not buy, just get a proper one that fits.
