I installed this in an old 1980 Onan 45 kilowatt generator that has a 300ci Ford straight 6 engine. The generator is backup power for an FM radio station transmitter. The generator stopped running while powering the station during a power failure caused by an ice storm. The engine stopped because the ignition points weren’t opening. I had to re-gap the points, but the station was off the air for about 2 hours. A month afterwards, I took out the points and installed this in about 30 minutes. All I had to do afterwards was check the timing. It works great. The engine is more stable now. The generator frequency varied about 0.3 Hz under load with the mechanical points (59.7 to 60.3 Hz). After installing the module, the frequency stayed within about 0.05 Hz (59.95 to 60.05 Hz). The engine even sounds smoother and more steady now. The instuctions say the primary winding of the ignition coil must be higher than 1.5 ohms. The coil on this engine was reading 3.8 ohms, so I didn’t need to change it. I also bought a different Pertronix Ignitor for a generator with a 460ci Ford V8 and had similar results. That was 5 years ago, and it still works fine.

I am very pleased with how this worked after installation. It was a little different putting on than was shown in videos on YouTube but with a little planning I was able to hook it up. I would like to point out that you should make sure to get the correct module needed for your car. I went to the Pertronix web site to get all of the needed information and correct application for my car, not all distributors are the same. Doing some research will pay off. The price was right. After I put it on and checked and set the timing, I took the car for a spin. At high RPM I noticed better performance and better acceleration. I would recommend this as an upgrade to any older car.

Works well but could use more adjustment between coil and cam collar, + and – . It would not adjust down as far as instruction recommended but it works very well!

I have an older Onan 30 kw generator with a 6 cylinder Ford engine. I was tired of the old points and condenser ignition system. Unit was very difficult to get started and setting the points was a headache. I decided to purchase this product after reading a review from a customer with the same problems I was having. Base plate had to filed in a few places so that it would fit correctly and allow for adjustment of the air gap. Once it was installed and the air gap set, the engine fired up without any problems. No more hard cranking. I would recommend this product for upgrading to electronic ignition.

I like this item and it works great

Put this ignition module in my 1969 Mustang with a 200 inline 6. The electronic ignition really woke up the engine. It’s running great now and I don’t really have trouble with cold starts anymore. I took a Star off because I had to shave it down a little to fit perfectly in my distributor. Overall I’m extremely happy with my purchase.

The product was as promised. It arrived quickly and took about ten minutes to install. I turned the key and it started right away. I was skeptical at first, as it seemed too easy but is works great.

Before you rebuild or replace your carburetor you should try this product if you have points!!! My mustang used to run totally different on a rainy day than a sunny day. I though I had bad gas in the tank causing a rough or sluggish idle at times. This product was installed on a rainy day and made my engine run like new with the same gas. Highly recommended inexpensive update for your classic baby. Easy installation and great price.

Easiest and best upgrade possible. took me about 10 minutes to install. no longer have to worry about the points anymore! Car runs better, starts better, etc.

  10. Michael Nicholson

This fit perfect in my 66 Mustang, 200ci 6 cyl. Before this ignition system my car always ran terrible. This system with the stage 2 coil is awesome. My car idles well, accelerates better ans is more enjoyable to drive. It took about 40 minutes to install both items.
