  1. Amazon Customer

I ordered the Pantronix ignition through Amazon. When it came it only was in a padded envelope! The Pantronix box containing the electronics was crushed down in areas. Very poor packaging for such a expensive and delicate part. My only worry is, I hope it did not do any damage and shorten the life of it. It works well at this time, but I don’t use the tractor a lot, so time will tell.
Make sure you read the instructions! You can’t use solid copper spark plug wires with this!!! Also, make sure you have the correct coil!! NOTE: You need a full 12 volts feeding this unit, and make sure there is not a resister in the line! I had a resister so I bypassed it. I also had to order a new 3 ohm coil, and I had to order plug wires. Works great, fires right up, better throttle response.

This was put on 1953 ford grand jubilee. Worked as claimed. I did replace coil with 3ohm.

I bought this for my 651 Workmaster. Being a child of the ’80s, I never owned a car with points (not even my ’72 Duster had them, though I can’t remember if it had electronic ignition from the factory or if someone converted it when they swapped engines). I never set points in my life, so when my step-father gave me his tractor that he had owned for 42 years, I had very little knowledge about the ignition of a tractor that he had owned 4 years before I was born, let alone something that was new when Ike was still President.
When he gave it to me, he had bought a new tractor and this one wasn’t running well. I spent a lot of time trouble shooting and found that I was getting weak spark. I bought a points kit from the local dealer (plus a cap, rotor, plugs and wires) and put them in, but I just could not get it to run any better and at times not at all no matter how many times I tried to set the points by the manual, what the local dealer had told me and what I found online. It had also been converted to 12 volts a few years ago. I finally decided to take the leap and by this.
I ordered these on a Friday and had them Saturday with Amazon Prime. I also bought this coil because it didn’t know what one I had: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00199BO4C/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00.
I had both installed in about 30 minutes and what a difference! It starts much fast then it used to and the spark is bright!
I would highly recommend this if you have issues with points. I know there are some hard core tractor guys out there that would turn their nose up at electronic ignitors, but I wish I had done this sooner! The instructions were well written, but I did find a online video that Pertronix put out that showed how they went in just to make sure that I did it right. Save your old points and parts, you may need them someday and there is no modification to the distributor, so you can go back.

    muy recomendado!

My Brother in Law installed this on my 8N (12 Volt negative ground). Works great. Points work but are fiddly to set up and can go out of adjustment. This makes things simple and the tractor seems to work more reliably, easier start on first try.
We added a rubber washer between the magnet ring and the rotor to make sure the magnet did not float up the shaft – but I don’t think it is really necessary. Also, the company warns you not to leave they power on for a long time without the engine running but on an 8N I have a knife disconnect and key. Matched with a Pertronix 28010 Flame Thrower Coil this gives me a feeling of confidence that the spark will be there.

Used for Ford model 631 4 cylinder gas engine. Installed with new distributor cap, rotor button, etc. Also installed new pertronix 40,000 volt coil. Installation went well and ran fine for two months. Then engine would crank but would not start. Only guaranteed thru Amazon for 30 days. Went to Pertronix. Initially thought they were helpful. Had me check for excess heat, (Negative), Checked voltage on coil, (ok), check type of spark plug wires, I had standard stranded metal wire. Was told to replace with carbon spark suppression wires. IF I would do this they would issue an RMA and I could send the defective part back. They would test it and if defective would then send me a new part. I asked if replacing the wires would guarantee the new part would work an was told no, that there were many reasons the part could have failed. I have replaced the wires and will send the defective part back but feel this is a runaround. If I needed carbon suppression spark plug wires they should have specified this initially. Bottom line is that my tractor has sat for two weeks during the busy season.

Employer sur mon tracteur 8N Ford, fonctionne très bien

1950 8N with a Sherman Trans, coupled with 3ohm 40,000V coil from the same maker. Machine fires and idles smoothly with half a push of the starter. Very impressed, able to idle the machine down very low and still a smooth idle. If it lasts, I’ll never mess with points again. I believe many of the failures I’ve read on this may be related to ignition being left on and machine not running.

I installed a dash LED from Amazon on my machine when rewiring with a new 12V harness in a already present dash hole from someone else. Ground LED black wire… LED positive to wiring that is hot only when key is on(tractor dependent). Very simple install. Then, you know your 8N is ready to roll when red LED turns on. Machine off, keys out of the ignition, light off.

After yrs of fighting with points and condenser issues this easy to install upgrade works great. Wish I went this route yrs ago.

  10. Tim Bridgers

Installed on my 1953 Ford Jubilee. Works great!
