When I received this fuel pump for my 2001 Chevy Silverado 4.8L, it was missing one of the three metal rods shown in the picture. It was also missing one of the electrical plugs required to fit my vehicle. Fortunately, I was able to reuse the electrical plug from my old fuel pump after drilling a hole in the top of the new pump. Everything works without the third rod (so far), but quality control must have been sleeping on the job on this one, and don’t rely on Amazon to match the right part to your vehicle without double checking with the manufacturer.

The unit purchased was at a reasonable price, however, after the installation, and and reassembly of my truck, discovered the fuel sending unit was defective. The sending unit did not indicate the proper fuel level in my tank. After all the labor to change the unit, it was defective. Waiting to hear from company about a replacement.

Once installed it worked well. Direct fit other than having to rewire a connector due to reconfiguration. I bought “genuine GM” hoping to avoid this type of thing.

Fuel pump failed within 2 years, 1st GM dealership confirmed Fuel pump not holding pressure. 2nd GM dealership Top End needs to be removed and cleaned, no mention of Fuel Pump issues. 3rd Independent Mechanic Diag. Fuel pump pressure not adequate. This is an intermittent problem going on for 8 years. Multiple “Certified Professionals” can’t figure out problem. I will fix myself.

After installing this pump, I waited a while before reviewing. This is the third replacement fuel pump on an old Silverado with 175K miles. The fuel level sensor on the original pump failed at 70K miles, and the sensors on two non-OEM replacements lasted even fewer miles. The pump itself, by the way, did not fail on any of the three. This one has been installed for about 10K miles and is working well. Local parts counter guy who owns same model truck tells me that this AC Delco part is the answer. Time will tell.

Same reason you all are here – my truck wouldn’t run. In my case a 2002 6.0 2500HD. I looked at the Delphi pumps and the $100 and less pumps. The price went up significantly since I bought it, but when I did it was very comparable to the Delphi pumps, so I decided this would be the one. It worked, just like it should. It has the new style connector and some wire to splice into your harness. Everything I looked at uses this new connector style. You don’t need any special tools to remove the fuel lines – although twisting the corroded lock ring off can be a bit of a pain. I cut my box floor and temporarily have a piece of plywood over it, but that’s a good thing as I forgot to put the float on. I didn’t see AC Delco stamped anywhere on the pump, nor the box, but I didn’t see it on the old one either and I’m guessing it was original. As others have said it only has 1 connector. As far as I know you can also use MU1613 which has 2 connectors (MU1613 works for MU1614 but not vice-versa) – so if the price is right on them maybe go that way.

This pump does NOT come with the EVAP sensor. I highly recommend that you determine if your vehicle has 2 plugs on the fuel pump. Mine does, so I had to remove the EVAP sensor from my old pump, drill a hole in the top of this new pump, and install the sensor. It wasn’t a difficult task, but it would be better to purchase the pump with the sensor already installed. Also, I do NOT like the requirement to swap the electrical connector for the fuel pump/fuel gauge harness. The old-style plug seems to work fine and I don’t understand why someone decided to change the connector type. Again, this wasn’t a difficult task – simply cut and splice 4 wires. It just seems unnecessary to have to change this plug. I figure that some young design engineer thought it would save the manufacturer some money.
Aside from these things, the pump install went well and it seems to be working fine after 1 week. From past experience, I highly recommend that you purchase a genuine ACDelco part, rather than an aftermarket brand. Also, do NOT let your tank run near empty. This is the most common reason for pump failure.

Original fuel pump was starting to go out. Had to turn the key a couple of times to prime, then it would fire up. Decided it was time to get a new one before it left stranded. Checked to make sure I only had one connection and ordered this one. I installed it by doing the tilt the bed method. Went without a hitch. Soldered in the new connector. Checked for leaks and fired up the truck. Everything was good. Dropped the bed and it’s been rock solid since install. Wonder if I’ll get another 20 years out of this one like the original?
