Woo boy, … I curse myself every time I have to prop open that gargantuan hood and wonder when it’s gonna clobber me. And yet it is the one thing I always forget I need as soon as I shut the hood.
Well, them days is OVER. For reference the truck is a 1999 Ford F350 4×4 Super Duty 7.3 liter diesel, candy apple red, and can pull a house off it’s foundation but can’t handle a little mud without the second shifter. Huh.
Anyway, you want to open your hood and extend it open as far as the current struts allow. The package comes with an adorable little flathead screwdriver that you slide up the backside of that black clip (you devil), just enough to raise it to clear the ball mount. You don’t have to pull it off completely.
Then you pop off both ends, grab the replacement and again use the screwy to hold the clips up while you pop the ends onto their mounts. Easy.
What you don’t want to do is finish one and then take your brace out to see if it holds, not realizing the other old strut #2 still has some gas to help out, and then barely miss losing your fingers when you pop it loose. That hood was just dying to clobber me.
Anyway, 2 hold it just fine and I feel a whole lot better every time I have to replace the air filter. 5 stahs

Well packed, thoughtfully included a tiny screwdriver (needed to use as a prybar on the clips to remove the old shocks) and they worked instantly – even in 17F degree Alaskan weather! Every winter for the last several years I’ve had to push up on the hood to fully extend the old cylinders AND Mprop open my hood with a snow brush since my 25 yr old lift shocks were just TIRED. These lift shocks from Nilight (like several other products I’ve tried from them) are great. They thoughtfully shipped with the only install tool you need which was a tiny flat blade screwdriver. Parts are made to fit perfectly in the vehicle they are designed for. I did notice initially that the shock cylinder was about an inch shorter than my OEM part but the overall length of the part was the same. When i installed the new ones I couldn’t tell any difference. Perfectly happy with this product. It seems just as durable as the ones that have lasted the first 25 years in this truck… now will the truck last another 25? Time will tell!

These Nilight Lift Support Struts Replacements for Ford Excursion worked perfectly on my 2005 Ford Excursion.
They were super easy to install, taking less than ten minutes from start to finish. They are as strong and work as well as the OME struts.
I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend these struts for your Excursion repairs.

My F350 was still running the original hood struts, and I’ve noticed that they were barely doing the job of keeping the hood up. Ordered these – when they arrived, I saw that they also included a small screwdriver to help remove the old struts (place the screwdriver under the retaining ring, and pull out a bit to release the clip). Replacement was quick/easy, most important thing is to support the hood ‘up’ with your hand when swapping. Use a hood support rod if that’s a bit too much. NOTE; always check the ends of the new rods – they are screwed on, and often not completely tight. Make sure to tighten before you install.
So far these are holding up great and they’ve also provided a bit more lift to the hood. As always, I’ll update this review should any issues develop down the road.
