    Crank has major play in it on shaft to rod. I could not install it and ordered elswhere

    When I received the crank, one end was punctured out the side. I looked that end over and didn’t see any visible damage, so didn’t worry about it. I looked the rest of the crank over and it looked like a match to the original. Although the crank itself had a little more side to side play than I would have liked.

    So, I installed the crank and closed up the engine case. Everything went good on the magneto side install. Then I went to the clutch side and the clutch would only slide one a quarter inch before locking up. I got the clutch back of and began to evaluate. With inspection light I could see imperfections in the machining of the splines for the clutch. So, I was at a decision point – do I tear the entire engine case back down or hand file to correct the splines. For the next 2-3 hours I spent Mic-ing and filing the splines to get them correct.

    My lessons, before starting to assemble the motor, make sure all threads and splines are perfect. And for engine parts, probably go with higher cost and higher quality. Engine projects are way too much work to need rework…

    I’ve had good experience with Niche products in the past, but this was a failure.
