This motor is what it says it is. But this might help a lot of people… If your engine is a right hand rotation/counterclockwise engine with this starter nose cone facing the flywheel AWAY from the belts then this will work for you, however for the same right hand rotation counterclockwise engine if your starter is mounted with a nose cone facing the engine TOWARDS the belts then what you need is a clockwise starter. Even though your engine is a counter-clockwise engine. The direction of the starter spinning the flywheel will change depending on the direction it’s mounted. as for the motor itself for a 454 it seemed a little weak but would get the job done.

Starter was great! Fixed my problem. Fit my Pleasurecraft SB Chevy. Rear mount, standard-rotation engine. The only thing to look out for on this starter is the nosecone. My original starter had a small notch on the nosecone to accommodate the bell-housing bolt that is situated in the starter hole. New starter didn’t have that notch, but I was able to dremel it out to make it fit. Still gave it 5 stars though because the description doesn’t claim it fits PCM.

This is a Counter clockwise rotation starter and it did say ccw which I missed
In my defence I did say for a mercruiser 470 but my original is Clock Wise
Would be good if it said what it was for rotation in BOLD print
I hope it didn’t hurt my motor as I tried repeatedly to start it
