Not too bag of a job. Had a leaking front differential seal. Hardest part is removing the old seal.

I’m doing the notorious “pump rub” fix on my 2003 Silverado 2500hd 4×4 8.1/Allison pickup and am replacing seals while I’m in there. I bought this seal TWICE to install on the transfer case front drive shaft output and BOTH times, the seal failed during install.
The first time, I didn’t get a proper seal press and just very gently tappy-tapped it into place with a hammer and a 3/8″ extension like I usually do without issue. Once I got it seated, I noticed that there was some rubber “flash” that had come un-seated from the seal, rolled out, and was protruding from the shaft seal (obviously prone to leakage). I figured maybe I was just being a dingleberry installing it without a proper press, so I ordered a second one along with a proper seal press from Merchant Auto.
I went to install the second one with tons of grease for lubrication and even pressure all the way around it using my Merchant Auto seal tool and I STILL found a SIGNIFICANT amount of rubber flash that had rolled under the sealing edge!
Once again, I immediately yanked this thing out, sucked it up, and ordered a GM GENUINE 12474947 instead. These seals were nothing but a waste of time and money! VERY disappointed!
