I got tired of spending $30.00 for large MSR fuel bottles..
So one day I was in a thrift store and saw a large SIGG aluminum drinking bottle..
Since SIGG is machined out of one piece of Aluminum including the threads I paid $1.99 took it home filled it half way up with white gas and hooked up my Primus Pump to it and it fit perfect.
I gave it 100 pumps and let it sit overnight and it held with out a drop of fuel spilled.
Next I grabbed my Modified MSR Firefly stove that I fitted a screw on valve for duel fuel use.
Primed the stove and turned on the gas and it was burning like it should..
A side note, the new MSR pumps will not work, they have a wide flange like the MSR child protection cap.
The thread is the same but the SIGG bottle has a wider lip than the MSR bottle and it will not clear it and secure tight..
The Older MSR pumps will fit they didn’t have a flange.
So Why am I going on about SIGG Water bottles and MSR expedition caps?
Simple, it fits and the fuel will not melt the cap like the drinking cap will.

I dislike that MSR now defaults to the tamper resistant cap which is impossible to remove in cold weather, the primary use case for liquid fuel stoves, seems like they use the lawyer issue as an excuse to make everyone but a separate fuel cap.
That said, the “expedition” fuel cap is amazing, why? Because it’s just a cap, that easily screws on and off. If you child is drinking white gas out of a fuel canister you have failed as a parent at keeping it out of their reach if they are young or teaching them basic human survival skills if they are older (like don’t drink gas).

The lid I had been using for 25 years.
was so tight that I couldn’t turn it, so I bought a new one. I’m happy to be able to use it normally

REI is sold out of these so Amazon is the last resort. The funny thing is that I heard these were recalled for not being child proof. Which is kind of the point. LOL anyway….
This cap works great on Optimus green fuel bottles and MSR bottles. I have heard that they work on Primus bottles too but I cannot verify this through experience. If you have a fuel bottle with the horrible child-proof cap that breaks and make it impossible to get the cap off then this is your answer.
Additionally, the o-ring design on this cap is way better than Optimus’ teflon o-ring that slips off all the time or gets pinched and makes the fuel leak.
These should be provided with all fuel bottles, instead of the child-proof ones. But, I understand why they aren’t. (They probably got sued when an irresponsible parent left a fuel bottle out and their window-licking offspring drank the contents)

If you’ve lost the cap in the brush somewhere, this is the answer.

Fits great and replaces that stupid child proof cap the fuel bottle came with.
Shame on all the people who forced me to buy the bottle with that horrible child proof cap. Including MSR,
government officials, do gooders et al. Anyone who lets children get their fuel bottle probably shouldn’t be breeding anyway.

I built a sand bike out of a dirt bike. Specifically a 2000 CR250R. Those gas tanks are small. When it is built for racing around a track, you don’t need a lot of gas. But out on the dunes, you need gas. So I purchased 2 MSR gas bottles to carry around in my riding bag. The caps that came with the bottles where child proof, and all the revies said they have issues with leaking. So I picked up these replacement caps.
I fill my MSR bottles about 3/4 full. Wrap them in a hand towel and place them in my back pack. With all the bumps and jumps on our week long riding trip, these caps never let one drop of 2-stroke gas leak by. I was impressed. I see these lasting for along time. I would buy them again, but hopefully I never have to.

Amazingly it fits the fuel bottle I had that I bought probably 20 years ago. It was easier to replace the whole cap than it was to find a suitable o-ring.
