A month of daily riding later, this thing is still running strong! I’m pleasantly surprised considering the reputation of aftermarket fuel pumps, but either I got an especially good one or this specific brand is just better than others

Right sized pump but bracket is wrong for my 1200 vmax 2003 so doesn’t work

…you want to get stuck on the side of the road. Yes, just like I did about 9 miles from home.

When I installed it and turned on the key to see if it was going to prime the line like it should, the clicking and clacking going on were a sure sign this wasn’t the same quality as the OEM pump.
Ok fine, if it worked, maybe it would eventually quiet down. Well it didn’t.
At every stop sign I could hear it clacking away every so often as it cycled. That’s with a helmet on, loud exhaust and music playing full blast in my helmet.
The OEM pump for my bike (’01 Yamaha R6) is about $260. This junk was only $21 so I wasn’t expecting a whole lot, but hoped I’d get lucky. Other reviews of this same Chinese made pump indicated the same thing, it failed very quickly, but a few posts said it was ok so I hoped for the best.
I feel like you should get more than 15 minutes out of it?
I do like the bracket it came with though. It appears to be zinc plated so I ended up using that for mine instead of the black painted original bracket that started rusting.

I’m glad it was only $20 because I don’t know if I should try to return it, given it still has old gas in it. I’ve tried to flush it out but it still smells of gas.

If I had to make a recommendation, if you are in the same boat as me and don’t have almost $300 for a new pump, is to do what I did, which is buy a used oem pump off evil bay. Got my bike back on the road, it’s quiet and was only about $70. Who knows how long it will last but poor people like me do what we need to get by when yours only transportation to work is an old, cheap sport bike.

Pump is not for a vmax 1200 at all yamaha vmax haves a specific mounting bracket and this one was completely opposite plus the lines both face wrong directions this pump burned up after 3 weeks so big waste and you can’t mount it correctly at all

  5. Kennith K.

Good fuel pump for the price. Fit perfectly in my v max.
