Purchased these for the front of my 03 Pontiac Grand Am. I had previously replaced (a couple weeks ago) the two rear struts due to a rattle and thought I might as well do the front two as well even though there was no apparant immediate problem with the old ones.
Jacked the front of the car up, supported it with jack stands, took the wheels off, put a couple of scrap 4×4 wood pieces under the rotor for support, removed two of the top bolts and loosened the third (leave this one partially in for support), removed the two larger lower bolts with my impact wrench, removed the bolt previously loosened on the top and pulled the strut out. When you remove the botton two nuts, you’ll need to tap (tap….not pound) the bolts out with a hammer, but be careful not to damange the threads on the bolts. If you put the nut on a few turns and tap on that, you’ll save the threads from any potential damage. It took a few seconds of finagling to get the strut out….but once you’re down there, you’ll figure out how to get it out of the wheelwell.
Since you’re near the CV boot when you’re removing the strut…make sure to take care not to rip or tear the cv boot when you’re working with your tools and removing the strut. Just be careful and you’ll be ok.
The new one goes in the same way….just reverse the steps.

Used these on a 2002 Grand Am 3.4 and it was the easiest job. Popped off the old ones, helps to have an impact wrench, and popped on the new ones. Definitely took less than an hour, including jacking up the car and getting the tires off and on. After a quick trip to the local shop for an alignment car drives like new.
I hate having to deal with spring compressors and the basic bomb to hold transferring just the spring to a new set. And since Amazon has such a great price on the full package why not update all the pieces and save the hassle.

This was a perfect fit for my 98 malibu. I had bought a different brand originally and it was completely wrong. Further research brought me to this part and it went on smoothly with no issues. Technically, you want to replace both sides at once…but, after Christmas its sometimes hard to do that. I will be ordering the sister strut today from the same place. The shipping was amazing and the part was spot on. Can’t beat that!

Installed these front Monroe in my 2003 Chevy Malibu. Old ones were gone, once these were installed all kinds of issues went away, like rattling and thumping noises under the car, poor handling and ride. Installation took about an hour and was able to do it in my driveway. Perfect fit excellent product, much improved handling and ride.

I am sure the strut assembly is fine, shipping etc was good–Problem is, regardless of what the amazon site says, infers, etc this strut will ONLY fit a 2004 and 05 Malibu Classic (the rental cars)–you need to go to Monroe site and really analyze what you need–I had to call them to find this out–seeing as how I need struts for a Maxx these were no good to me and the 30 day period has passed, so anyone needing some 171672s can get a deal from me!!
