I rated this five stars because after riding around on shot struts for a couple months new ones are a long awaited breath of fresh air. I bought four Monroe struts (the one with the R is the back right, the one with the L at the end is for the back left, and the front ones have the same part number) and they have performed wonderfully. Sometimes it’s difficult to tell if they’re squeaking because of the crappy road conditions in Amarillo, Texas and other suspension issues, but I have done the bounce test numerous times, and driven over dips and speed bumps that used to make me cringe and my front bumper scrape the pavement, and these struts have not disappointed. I have had them on my 2002 Pontiac Grand Prix for a month as of the writing of this review.
To put them on you take off the tire, get a 19mm socket and a breaker bar with a long pipe on it or something because you WILL need the extra leverage, and take off the nuts. Hammer out the big bolts and be careful not to mess with the brake lines at all. After that trial, if you’re doing the front have the hood popped with a 15mm handy and undo the 3 nuts on the strut mount. These struts come with brand new nuts for the top anyways. After that the strut will fall out, so you should probably keep a hand on it while undoing the last nut so it doesn’t hurt anything.
If doing the back, undo the sway bar from the strut, pull back the carpet from the sides of your trunk and you will see the nuts for the back ones. You’ll need a really small ratchet or a 15mm wrench and a lot of patience. Also, if you have little rubber noise cancelers, they go on top of the strut while you’re fitting it in the hole. They don’t stretch over the top. While you’re doing this use jackstands because the jack will be very helpful when putting the new struts in, and also it’s just safer that way. When you’re putting them in, you will have to wiggle the strut and wheel bearing around quite a bit. Do your best not to damage anything especially the CV axle and brake lines.
I got the top parts on tight and then used the jack to jack up the wheel bearing instead of trying to hold it up and get the bolts in at the same time. Much easier. If you think you might ever have to do this again, you could spray some white lithium on the treads or do it anyways when you’re hammering them back in because it helps. Make damn sure they’re on tight. You do not want this to end badly. After all that, you still need an alignment which will greatly improve handling. 4 wheel alignment $65 at the shop I go to.

I purchased the 171662R and 171662L for the rear of my 1998 Buick Century. I have a big shop and all the tools but you don’t need them for this job. With just the tools listed below you can do this in about 2 hours. They showed up on time and in perfect condition as usual and fit perfectly. The local tire store wanted almost 700.00 bucks to do this, but I did it for about 250.00 and a six pack of beer. All you need is a 15mm wrench, 18mm wrench, 5mm allen wrench and a 10mm socket and ratchet. You can watch a video on You-tube and see how easy it is. . . Thanks again Amazon.

Installed the quick strut and it was bad from the start. 2 out of the three studs were missing I had to use the studs from the old strut. I installed it and took it for a test drive and there is a loud growling noise coming from the strut when driving. When I hit bumps it sounds like it’s going to fall apart. Now I ordered the right and left at same time and they were 2 different strut Assemblies the left side did not have the rubber shock absorber in it but the right side did. Now the left one is ok but I could tell it was used because there was witness marks from bolts on the metal were the 2 bolts go to attach it to the hub assembly arm. But the right side sounds absolutely horrible I’ve tried to contact customer service but tmwheb you click on product support it takes me to some weird website and the 1800 number I get just a busy signal. Overall very disappointed in the products over always went with Monroe struts on all my vehicles but these are absolutely horrible if I could actually get in contact with customer service it would be nice because I want to return them and actually get good parts 😡 then I would give it a 5 star rating

Bought all four for our Grand Prix and these things made the cars ride come alive again. It’s funny though, experts recommend changing these every 50K miles but we changed ours at 200K. For the customers though, I really hope Amazon starts to sell them again because they have the best price and their shipping is always the best since nomrally it’s free and super fast. Very easy to replace though. They might not align up perfect but all you need to do is get the top bolts on and then take a bar and twist it to where it needs to go. I’m not going to lie, the rear ones are a pain because there is not much room to work to get the bolts off but just take your time and you’ll get it. I actually used an O-Ratchet which worked perfect for the limited space. If you are thinking about doing your struts and either buying the complete kit or the pieces and doing it yourself, save yourself the time, money and frustration and just by the kit because it’s the only way to go! Everything is NEW!!!!

These do NOT feel like upgrades, nor do they feel like “as good as new”.
These are suitable solutions to keep a car safely on the road. They do not dampen much, pretty stiff in an unsophisticated way. They are better than the 25 year old struts they replaced, but a far cry from “great” or “as good as new”.

These 2 rear Quick Struts were quick n easy to replace my old ones on my 2002 Grand Prix GT. To remove the anti-sway bar connection from the rear struts, just put a socket on the bolt to the outside of the car, even though in the center of the bolt there looks to be an allen screw to remove first (it faked me out for a few minutes), n an openend wrench on the back side of the strut where the anti-sway rod connection meets the bolt, n remove rod from strut. Used only a jack n jack stands. The 2 rear Quick Struts are both same part numbers, but are with Right n Left, at the end. The old ones were originals at 162,000 miles n were totally shot! I’ve got a great ride again, thanks to Monroe n their $125 rebate on 4 Quick Struts, deadline for purchase was Oct 31, total price was $307! I’d do it again. They were shipped quickly n arrived on-time.
