Installed a set of Monroe Quick-Struts on 2001 Honda Civic, along with new lower control arm, tie rods, ball joint, calipers, rotors, break pads & tires. Passenger side (#171433) seems to ride smooth, while the driver side (#171434) is clunky when turning the steering wheel, even while vehicle was raised on lift without the vehicle weight on the suspension. Visual inspection shows the spring dragging against the top bearing plate instead of sliding smoothly. This set is replacing Monroe parts that are at least 10 years old, but back then we manually compressed the spring to install the shocks. Thought that this would be a bit of a time-saver.
Attempted to contact Monro via email from their website, but never heard back. Support for: Monroe 171434 Quick-Strut via Amazon.com listed a phone number that has apparently been changed. Called the new number 1-800-325-8886 and spoke to one of their “Garage Gurus” who said that sometimes they get some quick-struts like that, and to return it to retailer for replacement.
Although Amazon price with 2-day free delivery with Prime is awesome, there is the in-convenience factor. Most auto parts stores are at least double the cost, for exactly the same part. This is not an Amazon problem, per se…but status quo for a lot of manufactured goods, including auto parts. Buyer beware.

I installed it a week ago and so far they’re holding good. I drove on various pot holes and speed bumps and it works as they supposed to work. No more nose diving. Better handling. The only thing I note is that the ride is rougher than the originals, you feel more the imperfections of the road. I installed them myself and I was pretty easy. But my tie rods were rusted so I had to replace the as well. Be prepared!

These struts saved me a lot of time, and maybe my head by not having to mess around with compressing springs. However, I had a hard time installing them because the axle of the car would come off and would not go back in but it was not because of this assembly. It is just that every time you remove the assembly, the axle being unrestrained, will pop out and wont go in easily. Aside from that, they installed without a hitch and are working as expected.

Harsh ride quality. I feel every little bump. I should have just bought kyb struts and reused stock springs.

Much better ride. Make sure to remove the clear plastic covers they put over the bolts to protect the threads. Make sure to properly torque down your nuts to keep down the rattling noise. I had never done anything to this extent before, and I was able to install these on my own. I gladly bought a pneumatic impact wrench to do the job. I still had more than a thousand dollar savings per car. Whooooa. Yeah, I’m from the south.

Installed on a civic 2002 LX coupe. I bought this strut because I didn’t want to mess with exchanging the coil springs due to the fact that it is dangerous and also the spring compressor tools you can get from Pep Boys can’t compress the springs enough to relieve all of the tension. Installing the strut was fairly easy, except pulling off the tie rods. You have to pound the tie rod and soak with penetrating oil to have it pop out….it took awhile but eventually it popped off, I think I should have borrowed a tie rod puller from Manny Moe and Jack. So far the struts are performing perfectly. I don’t know what to do with the old struts, hoping I can recycle them somewhere. Watch the YouTube videos, they are the best, but they didn’t show how difficult popping the tie rods were. Listening for any squeaks, I’ll report back if I experience any. One thing I know is buying just the Honda strut bare (no coil, mount bearings, dust shields) cost $170. Installation took about 3 hours to replace both sides.

Monroe Quick Strut replacements to OEM’s have no issues so far with about 1k miles on them. Originals had 179k miles, leaking & rattling.
Key points: OEM lower 2 mounting bolt holes were perfectly round. Monroe’s have 1 hole slightly slotted for camber adjustment. Not sure how factory set the camber.
Monroe’s lower bracket won’t rotate so Uhave2 tug&pull 2get mounting holes 2line up. I used a small jack 2lift lower A-arm 2line up the holes.
Becareful driveshafts don’t slide out of the trans. If they do, not sure if it’s a hassle 2line up the splines.
Tie rods, I didn’t replace them. I had 2use a pickle fork &BIG hammer 2remove them from OEM strut. Becareful not2 mess up rubber grease cap.
My driveway is dirt & not level. I used this from AMAZON 2get a reference reading before I did anything… KIPA Adjustable Magnetic Gauge Tool Camber Castor Strut Wheel Alignment Tool.
It doesn’t have nth° gradations but close enough 4me to set Monroe’s back2 orig camber setting. I used a small pry bar & KIPA tool 2jiggle the brake rotor.
AMAZON shipping came on time… but, Monroe’s R shipped in display boxes not shipping boxes. Struts are heavy & slide around in box during shipping. Struts had punched thru both ends of the boxes. Mounting nuts & documents were in plastic bag inside box… not missing but could have fallen out.
