Purchased these shocks for my lowered 2004 Dodge Ram 1500 ST RWD as the truck was bottoming out in the rear, lowered too much? LOL…. OK these Monroe 58640 were shipped quick, arrived quick and I instantly had them installed. Wow what a huge difference in the ride, smooth as in floating, no more bottoming out. Am looking forward to loading up camping gear and hitching the boat up for a nice trip to the river. The shocks raised my truck rear approximately 2.5 inches but is not noticeable at all. Again the ride is awesome, increased the travel distance and ended the issue of bottoming out. Also of note is when searching for shocks I found that Monroe is the only one that has them for the 2004 Dodge Ram 1500 ST RWD. Not one other company makes an overload shock or spring for this model. Installation was quick, perfect fit. When replace is needed in the future, Monroe will hear from me, again. OK headed out to find a rough road, just want that smile again.

I have had these on my Dodge Ram 1500 for 9 months or so. They do what Monroe says they will do. They have, however started to squeak around the bushings, but I can live with that. Makes towing a 20′ trailer with a small bucket loader / back hoe much better. The truck obviously drops some, but now the leaf springs don’t flatten out. The ride is a little stiffer without weight on it, but that is to be expected. These are great coil over shocks at a very reasonable price.
Four stars is because it developed a squeak. If they were quieter it would rate five. Still recommend for anyone with a 1/2 – 3/4 ton work truck.

Just installed these on my lowered dodge
Was having issues with the standard shocks not absorbing as much impact they felt very soft
Now with these my truck is handling smoother and able to handle more

Great deal on shocks, really helping with older half clapped out leaf springs.
Fit well on ’05 Ram 1500 rears.
Easy swap. Bit longer than what was there, but I can’t know for certain that what was there was right for the truck anyway. Truck has regained 1″-2″ in the bak and is lo longer sagging to one side. Happy with the purchase.

I have an 07 ram 1500, I purchased these shocks to gird up the some what embarrassing girlie payload capacity. I also have a Horse trailer and a cargo trailer that I load up with atv’s and haul. I didn’t want the rear end sagging and bouncing when towing. I added these Monroe’s, and man they really did the trick. When fully loaded the truck and trailer ride perfectly level. With Trailer and gear fully loaded is about 5K. The lil Ram-ster hauled it like a champ.(it does have da HEMI). The shocks only raised the rear end of the truck about an inch when I’m not packin. The cost can’t be beat, nothing was even in the same ball park as far as cost goes, and ease of installation. A local mecanic installed the shocks for $30.00 bucks in under 30 minutes, and that’s because we were talking. He could have done it quicker if I hadn’t been asking him so many dumb questions.
I do recomend these great shocks, they were just what we needed. BIG THANKS to MONROE, these shocks rock..!! Did I mention these shocks are Nitrogen Gas filled as well. A pair of after market Nitrogen shocks on average cost more than these babies. The ride is a little bit stiffer when empty, but not much. Hey its a truck it should ride a little like a truck, right..!!

My 2006 dodge 1500 was super stiff on the rear end. As I was changing pads and rotors, I also changed out the shocks with these. People said they lifted up there trucks, mine truck stayed at the same height. It rides super smooth now, I don’t feel every bump like before. The shocks I took off we’re quite a bit longer then these, due to the lift I have, I honestly wouldn’t even consider it a lift on the rear, it’s really only lifted on the front. It looks like I still have the stock blocks. Anyways I was worried these would be too short, but after getting them on and taking it for a good test drive. The truck drives just fine. People complained of rattling going over bumps, due to the coil over that’s on the shock. Mine are very quiet, I don’t hear the coil vibrating at all on the upper or lower mounts. Installation was easy for me, if you have the right tools I’m sure it’ll be easy for you. To make it super easy, I did have to jack up the suspension from my hitch. That relieved the tension from the old shocks. And I just zipped off the upper and lower bolts with my impact. I did have to bend out the flares on the top to get the new ones in. But just a quick tip, install them on the top first, then slowly lower the truck if needed for the bottom eyelets to lineup. Another quick tip ,Take a crescent wrench and bend out( very little bending is needed) the flares on the top part. That’ll make installation a lot easier. I actually don’t tow a trailer or haul much, I only got these due to the price. But we do go camping quite a bit, and the wife likes to pack the entire house😋😋😋😋. I will update on my first camping trip UPDATE- 4/16/19- iv have these on my truck for about 2 weeks now. Absolutely no noise from these shocks. Still haven’t hauled anything but I will post pics and update when I do.UPDATE- MAY 1,2019- after driving with these on my truck for a little bit, one of the concerns that I started to notice was I don’t really have much upward stroke on the shock because I’ve got lift blocks on the back. Not sure if their stock because my brother-in-law has the same exact truck as I do and I installed these same exact shocks on his truck, and I noticed he doesn’t have lift blocks on the back. And the shocks I took off from his truck we’re only 1/4 inch shorter. So when I put the new shocks on, I actually didn’t have to lower the truck to line up the eyelets.. they matched up perfectly. With my truck I had to lower it a good 2 or 3 inch before the eyelets matched up on the bottom. I noticed on some of the pictures some gentleman posted on here. One of them looks like they have a taller lift block than I do and he says his shocks work great. In another picture, another gentleman doesn’t have lift blocks at all, like my brother-in-law. The reason why I say this is because, when I lift up my truck from the hitch. There’s probably a half an inch of upward movement from the shock before my tires actually come up off the ground. I’m not sure if that’s enough, especially if I go camping off-road and I hit some big potholes or go on uneven Terrain. I can see that potentially bottoming out the spring. Thinking about removing my lift blocks on the rear to give me more shock travel, not sure if it’s needed though. UPDATE-MAY 18, 2019- unfortunately my worry became a reality, these are great shocks but I did a little bit of measuring and research on the setup I have on my truck. I have a 2 inch add a leaf along with 2-inch blocks, so in total I have 4 in of lift. The shocks will not work if you have 4 in of lift. There is absolutely no upward movement in the shock especially when you hit bumps or dips in the road and you can feel the shock bottoming out( on the upward stoke, not bottom) I will be removing these, and they will be replaced with Skyjacker shocks. These are great shocks. But unfortunately the only way I can use these are if I take out my lift blocks and I don’t too for a few different reasons I won’t get into. But FYI- if you have a 4 inch lift, these will not work. Even a 3 inch lift would be pushing it. UPDATE- May 24, 2019- these shocks are no longer on my truck, I have the Skyjacker shocks on now. Like I said in my comment above. These are awesome shocks but they do have limitations depending on what kind of lift your truck has.
