I installed this belt system and pullies a few years back because the original belt on my 1998 dodge Grand Caravan liked to hop off when a lot of water got on it. That got old… This belt was the perfect answer to a problem that the car manufacturor should have remedied with a recall. The fact that it happened to so many owners and no recall was ever issued has soured me on their line of vehicles. I still have the original vehicle and use it daily. It has 240,000 miles and is still humming right along. (I have often felt that if you take good care of a car it will most likely take care of you!)
Anyway, I ordered this replacement belt as it has the same stock number of the original. The original belt kit came with a sticker to place under the car’s hood with the reorder information. So, I ordered this OEM replacement belt. The old belt showed very little wear but after five years I don’t want any surprises… I took the new belt to my mechanic and he called and told me the new belt was one-half inch longer than the original and that made the spring-loaded idler pulley set in the fully relaxed position, creating the improper tension on the newly-installed belt. That made the belt squeal on A/C pulley… So, he reinstalled the old belt and everything was good, again.But I still had an aged belt! So, he has ordered a pulley with a larger diamter to try and take up some of the slack in the new belt. So far, I do not know if this approach has been successful; I will get a call from my mechanic later in the day. If Plan B fails, I am stuck with the old belt waiting for it to… Anyway, I will return this belt to Amazon if it’s a bust. I have incurred additional parts and labor costs because of this quality control issue. Maybe it is a one-time situation, but there is never a good time for such! Sigh…

Found out in a rainstorm that there is a tiny bit of misalignment in the belt path of my Town & Country Lxi (2000) with the 3.8l engine. Just enough in fact that if water splashes up into the engine compartment the belt will slip right off the idler (smooth) pulley and you’ll lose pretty much everything – cooling, power accessories, etc.
This belt + the v-idler pulley to replace the smooth idler will stop this from happening.
The only annoying thing now is the squeak of the belt caused by the misalignment…but this nothing compared to the annoyance of having to crawl under the car to rethread the belt. In the rain. On a hot engine. In Houston. Squeak on! (And thank you Chrysler for not issuing a recall to fix your built-in problem /sarc)

I chose this rating only because I haven’t had it long enough to see how long it lasts. But I accomplish my objectives. I replaced a very noisy “Best Quality” belt. My old vehicle was embarrassing to drive for months. I didn’t know where to find it – then someone told me “Amazon.” Now it’s just as quiet as a new car, without the payments.
