I have this four out of five, the four is for final functionality and ease of use after it was finally installed. I installed this on a 2000 Chevy Silverado pickup truck, this is the side mount post.
This was my wife’s dad’s truck before he passed on, really a sweet ride that sounds awesome when you fire it up, probably had glass pack exhausts on it if I bothered to look, like revving a Harley 😉
Anyway, he drove it like a little old lady, hardly any miles on it, never drove it in the rain, kept it in the garage. Well my wife just drives it about once a month to keep everything lubricated, etc. But something is sucking the battery down and I haven’t taken the time to figure out what it is yet, thought it was the alarm system, but that wasn’t it. Anyway, new battery so need to keep it from the same slow charge/discharge fate!
I read the post below, the guy was awfully hard in his review. I agree with his bolt issue, but bitching about the size and complaining about it not fitting in the battery box, well that’s his own fault. The pictures are pretty clear and there are side to side measurements which give you an easy reference to figure out how wide it is. If I had a buck for every review where people leave a bad rating because they either didn’t actually read the material the seller provided on the page or look at everything and think about how it will fit/work/mount etc in their situation, never bothering to ask the seller or community questions, I could buy a lot of steak dinners!!
The thing came with two bolts and a flat washer. A short bolt that might be fine if you were using this to attach it to a cable with a flat ring terminal, and a longer bolt.
I had to dig through my bolt stash and find a longer bolt as the long one they included didn’t leave me feeling comfortable with how much thread it was grabbing into the battery.
The negative battery cable on the truck had a bolt that is encapsulated, meaning it is held in the cable end with a C-clip or something.
It started screwing into the threads on the switch then got really tight. I stopped at that point to make sure I found a bolt that was long enough to hold the switch to the battery first and did a test fit.
Once I felt confident with that I tooj it back of the battery and started the cable bolt back into the switch again. It got tight, at that point you think you cross threaded it or something, but I checked again. Anyway I surmised that it wouldn’t matter anyway since the bolt is steel and the switch is just copper, so I took a wrench to it and let the bolt cut it’s way in till the thing was almost tight, then positioned the cable where I thought it should be and tightened it down. Then bolted the thing to the battery.
Of course I did succumb my forgetfulness, hehe. Usually I always read a number of good and bad reviews before I buy something to see if I will have any surprises, had I done so I would have cussed less over having to hunt for a bolt! 🙂
Reading reviews, even when something had over four starts, can save your butt!! My step mom wanted me to buy something for her here (she won’t use her credit card online, hehe) so I went to the link for the foot vibrator/massage thingie she wanted. It looked nice and had like four starts.
The description sounded a lot fantastical though, like ‘your feet and legs will get great circulation and heal muscle cramps! it will purify your liver! your sex life will improve! It will cure your cancer! You will see the face God and not have to die first!’
You get the point, and you’ve seen ads like that on junk here. I thought, it’s just a foot vibrator! So I started reading the reviews. Well a lot of the latest reviews were really bad! It sounded like maybe they changed manufacturer or changed one it more of their parts vendors since some were showing up DOA or breaking soon after a few uses.
Would up buying a different brand, paid a bit more but got a really good product that, according to s number of reviews, actually had good phone and return support!
So pays to read, hehe.
Finally, we’re happy with the sidemount switch, now that it’s installed, and I installed a trickle charger while I was at it. There is a small bit of flex in the black plastic insulation divider, but now that i noticed it I’ll be mindful not to cause it, time will tell how it holds up!

This battery kill switch is heavy duty, well made and, best of all, really easy to use. My mechanic suggested disconnecting the battery to force one of my engine altitude sensors to reset when it doesn’t on it’s own. Didn’t think that removing the battery cable too often was smart or handy, so got this instead. It took me 10 minutes to install and is working fine. The kit came with everything I needed including a long bolt and washer. I had just enough space on the battery’s side posts side to make the install and was very glad I had a small ratchet. Next trip is coming up so will see if my mechanic was right. Should last.

WOW is this thing great!!! I have and old Cadillac that sits around a lot. Not to mention that is has every bell and whistle on it that you can think off. What this means, with time is parasitic drains and big ones. First you try to find it and that does nothing. Then you hear “these are are known for the alarm system draining… or take out the backseat & you will find where the computer is turning itself back on 15 mins after you turn the car off…. OR pay the $1,000 plus to have the dealer find/fix it”. It was so bad it had to be charged every day until the battery would no longer hold a charge. Auto batteries were not made to be drained daily.
OR BUY ONE OF THESE!!!
* Ease of installation: Well that really depends on your car and how much room you have. From the device standpoint it is a breeze. Screw the device into the battery and then the negative cable into the device and it just that easy. With this car there is very little room so it was a little tricky but in no way difficult.
There are 2 things they can improve on. 1st is the included screws…. The short one is way to short (useless really) and the included “long screw” is to long. Nothing a couple washers could not fix but they should include some with the device and not make you buy a pack when you only need one or two. The second is that it is a “screw” and not the same size head as the 3/8 battery terminal. This means you have to carry a couple different size wrenches with you in case something goes wrong with the device and you need to remove it.
* Ease of operation: Could not be better!!! Even with very little room (the screw in/out knob type device while cheaper would have been impossible) you can just lift the lever up or push it down, in less then a second, blindfolded. You definitely want the knife blade style.
* Value for the money: It is a life saver. I can not stress enough just how fast and easy it is to use once installed. No more dead battery. No more paying tons of money to figure out what is draining it now (who cares, drain away).
I have noticed some people comment on the “max working current is 250A” I think this is referring to the amps used when the engine is off and powering things in the car. Not the rated amps or cold cranking amps of the battery. I have a 1,000 amp, 800 cold cranking amps battery and it starts no problem. The battery does not start the car. The battery powers the starter which in turn starts the car. When running I have the heat, headlights, heated seats, radio, auto dim mirrors, digital compass, rear window defroster, just to name a few, running and still sending 2 amps back to charge the battery, without issues (done by the alternator). This is a must have if you want a quick. inexpensive and easy fix!

I have a Subaru legacy with a parasitic electric drain going on. Subaru is finally fixing this tomorrow.
But in the mean time when I would have to the leave the car for more than 2 days I would just use this to disconnect the battery. When I’d get back I’d use my key to open drivers door pop the hood screw down the device on the battery terminal and off I’d go. Works great.

I bought this Disconnect for my tractor but the battery post was slightly bigger than the battery clamp. I stuck a screwdriver between the two arms of the clamp and one immediately broke revealing white metal cast. I threw it in the trash can.

I purchased a set of pos/neg and installed them within 10 minutes on 2 vehicles: A Nissan Frontier and a Toyota 4Runner. These appear to be good quality, very easy to install, and work as advertised. I use my vehicles to tow an RV so I have several draws on the battery at any given time. This gives me an easy way to disconnect the draw when my vehicle is not in use. I’m sure that limiting the battery draw will also mean a longer lasting battery. I searched and this was the best price on a set I could find.
