I waited a few months to write a review to see how they held up on a 2003 350Z. They showed up quickly, were exactly like described in the description on Amazon, and were a good price. They were very easy to install and fixed the problem I was having with the old supports no longer keeping the hatch up. I’ve had them about 3 months without issue. The cold weather doesn’t seem to have any impact on them.

These fit the trunk (boot) on my Z just a described. The only trouble I experienced was in the installation. It is pretty straightforward, but I had difficulty reinstalling the retention clip over the ball joint on the shaft. I had to pound it in and I hope it holds. I didn’t get a warm and fuzzy feeling after the installation. I didn’t hear the retaining clip “snap” into place, that would have assuaged my fears that it may come loose when I least expect it. Other than that, the product works well. It makes lifting the trunk super easy, all the way to the top even in cold weather. Also, to my surprise, it closes gently as oppose to slamming down before I replaced the original lift supports.

    It working really well.

My 2003 350Z came with a spoiler. That spoiler made the deck lid heavy and it never stayed up. I got bonked on the head many times by that rear deck lid.
17 years later, I’d like to sell the car & the fact that the rear deck lid won’t stay up is now problematic. After going on youtube to find out how to switch out the Lift supports, I find that Nissan installs a 10 lb weight under the deck lid with the spoiler addition.

I bought these lift supports, which were simple to install, removed the 10 lb weight and now the rear hatch operates like new.

    Highly recommend.

I’m not mechanically inclined and I was able to install these in less than an hour. I have a 2007 350z coupe. they work perfectly. Took me a few minutes to realize that you do not have to reuse the original upper ball joint. It comes with a new one for each side. No more bonking my head as the trunk comes crashing down on me in the cool mornings of winter.

Really need to read the instructions to install. Hardest part was removing the old ones. These have been in service quite a while now and they still seem as tight and fresh as when they were first put in. Depending on the temperature, they will pop the hatch. Warmer it is, bigger the “pop”. When it’s cold, do not expect the hatch to pop up, but it will release. On a hot summer day, these lifts did not fade and the hatch does not sag, which is what happened with the OEM supports. Can’t tell you how many times I got bonked on the head by the originals. Even if these only last three or four years, I’d buy them again.

Revising my review because the two supplied bolts that screw into the car are rusting like there’s no tomorrow. I wish I had kept the OEM bolts. The struts are still working fine though it seems. It’s been about 8-9 months now though the car was stored in the winter.

These work awesome, install in 5 minutes, and have a bit more lift force than the factory supports did even when new. Can’t remember if it was for this product, or another brand where I saw some mis-information in another posters review, but to clear up some confusion on 350z hatches: The lift supports are not what determine whether the hatch will clear the lock on the first press of the hatch release. Having to lift on the hatch while pressing the release to get it to clear the lock is due to the springs in the little black cylinder bump stops that are on the hatch, near where the lift supports mount. These springs seem to suck, and after a while run out of poop to properly pop the hatch. To fix this, search for “350z hatch penny trick” with your favorite browser, follow along, and this will fix you up.

  9. Fam

Installation was quick and easy. The hatch latches but the left and right edge closest to the roof are being flared out about 0.5″. The weather stripping doesn’t come into contact with the frame. Better than having to hold the trunk up though.

  10. Brenton

Bought these for my 350z with no spoiler. They work almost to good. I have to press firmly to close my hatch now. Great value compared to buying them from a specialised store.
