Superb leather-care product. It is like a good jar of facial cream to thirsty skin.

We own a small leather-working studio in Friday Harbor, WA and used the water protectant to treat a handbag we wanted to soften and make a tiny bit darker. It definitely made the leather a little darker because it soaked in and is designed to treat or just plain protect, like lotion for leather. I like the consistency, as it’s easy to use/apply. They sent along a cotton applicator that works nicely. There is virtually no fragrance/odor to it (I was a little surprised). The leather soaked it up, and is now not quite as dark as when first applied, which stands to reason. I will use this on my boots and if I rode a motorcycle, would be fine using it on my heavy leather stuff, but I recommend to test a section first to make sure that you like the effect. Chamberlains backs their product, and from my experience is responsive and a very quick ship.

I’ve had this product for exactly ten years. I think I used it on a cream leather bag once, that long ago and held onto it ever since. The large purse pictured is my most beloved one ever but it has seen better days. Several rounds of water damage, abuse and more and I just couldn’t use it anymore. I have cleaned and “conditioned” it with Chemical Brothers products but it stayed dull, hard and too brittle. It lost its softness and I hated it, even though I love the bag. So, I used this product as a last ditch effort to save it, I had nothing to lose.
Using the pad that it came with I worked it into the bag, these pics were taken after 24 hours. It is noticeably softer although still has a little bit of a greasy feel, which I think that will go away over time. The texture is a world of difference but as you can see with the comparison to its brand new, untreated little brother purse (and sections I had a harder time reaching), it definitely darkened the leather. I don’t see it lightening, this is what it will likely look like forever. I may have applied it a little heavy, not sure? (again, I have nothing to lose here)
So, it worked for my goals – to softens and treat it. But it worked with a cost of the color, so beware if you are trying to preserve exactly what you have. I would imagine it takes differently to various types of leather/color…

Seems to be a good product although I am writing this in the spring and won’t be able to tell if it is really good until the winter (I live in an area where there is no rain until about October). Very, very good customer service. It seems that I applied too much product on my new leather jacket and complained like this:
“I did use the product on my beautiful, new Cole Haan leather jacket (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00JELS5J4/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1). I have no doubt that it is good for the leather and waterproofs it. But the product has left a nasty, white film/residue all over the jacket. This is not good. Please, what can I do?”
Got a very useful reply back:
“We’ll get this fixed up nice and clean. From the sound of it, I’d wager the leather couldn’t absorb all of the conditioner that was given to it. After some amount, the wax began to clog up the pores and the remaining conditioner was left on the surface. I’d buff off all the residue you can with a soft cloth, and perhaps use a leather cleaner or a small bit of rubbing alcohol on the rest. The most important part is to clear up the pores and let the conditioner run its course. Apart from that, it should be able to take care of itself – leather’s resilient like that. Let me know if that works for you. I could take a week for the jacket to return to a balanced texture. Finished leather has a protective film covering that inhibits conditioner from absorbing quickly – this is excellent for weather and spills, but makes it very easy to overcondition. To avoid this, I’d recommend only using a little conditioner at a time – only as much as the jacket will absorb. Once the conditioner stops absorbing, buff off any residue and let the jacket set overnight.”
I would buy it again. But be careful not to apply too much of the product!

I bought a beautiful handmade leather bag. I used this on it and the rain literally slides off w no trace.

I live in Southeast Alaska, so I get a lot of rain and snow, and while Saddleback guarantees their leather to be waterproof, I wanted to take extra precautions. I was very hesitant to buy it and try it due to the reviews saying it darkens leather, and the fact that no-one had posted pictures of the chestnut color. I own a Front Pocket backpack in Chestnut and absolutely adore the color, so I wanted to keep it that way. After getting rained on for about a week, I decided it was time to take the plunge, and boy, was I glad I did. It turns out, there was nothing to be worried about. I’ll try to post some pictures of the before and after, but I really didn’t see any difference whatsoever, and now the thing can hold up during a torrential downpour. I gave it the shower test and water beaded up and rolled right off. Top-notch stuff.
Concerns:
-For those people wondering how it smelled- I couldn’t smell it at all.
-The pad that came with it seemed to be of high quality, but I would recommend rinsing it/ washing it first, as there were some fuzzies/strands of cotton that dotted the leather during the treatment.
-It comes in a squeeze bottle, which was a huge relief to me. The consistency is a little bit runnier than toothpaste.
I think the instructions could use some work. It doesn’t tell you exactly how much to put on, so I ended up drenching my bag in the stuff. No biggie, it just made my bag softer.
-It says allow 15-30 minutes setting time. I recommend letting it dry overnight.
-Also remember to clean the leather beforehand, or like me, the treatment will be a little splotchy in some areas.
-One last thing- some of the dye rubbed off of the leather onto the pad. Not a huge concern to me, as the bag remains untouched, but that’s just my experience.
