As an OCD milage watcher, I have noticed an almost 1 MPG gain just by changing the air filter in my Ford F-250. The fit was oddly tight compared to the factory air filter, but it made a very solid connection nonetheless. I will buy it again. That 1 MPG will equate to more than the cost over time.

As always K&N makes a good product that shows in the final installation. I only wish that in the product description that the foam block is mentioned. According to K&N the filter doesn’t need the foam block…but they sell it anyway. It seems that a frequent issue with this filter is a Check Engine Light comes on because the EGR systems detects too much air; the foam block evidently prevents this error. Since there are so many discussions about this error, it seems to me that using the foam block is a no-brainer if you want to avoid a trip to the dealership and the hour diagnostic fee that’s associated with the visit. In my thinking, if there is a problem with not running the foam block on some engines, then there’s a very goo chance that this will happen to my engine; why take the chance. This filter should be sold with and without the foam block with ample discussion on why the foam block is offered.

This filter fit perfectly into my 2019 F250; total install takes about 45 seconds since the airbox is sealed with clips and not screws. With the stock filter I was averaging 15.5MPG; with the new drop-in I bumped up to 15.9MPG average. Easy enough to manage that I’ll just blow it out with the compressor whenever it’s convenient; way better than overpaying the dealership to pop a few clips and drop in a one-time filter.

No brainer when replacing air filter on 2017 6.7 Ford Diesel. The cost of the throw away is more than the KN. This filter does not have the foam piece that the oem filter has which concerned me. I contacted KN and here is their reply.

Thank you for contacting customer service. We do not block that hole for the main fact that our air filter can accept the extra air flow, and getting dirty is not a concern. The OEM air box was desighned to flow and keep the engine air filter clean by “kinda” blocking the air intake hole. Our K&N air filter is washable reusible and doesnt get tossed away like the OEM paper air filter, therfore we want more air flow so we leave the port wide open. We understand your concern and we will educate our R&D team with this question, hopefully we can get something to discuss this scenario inside the air filter packaging for our future customers.
