everything went well just kept saying no key detected luckily i was able to remove old tubler and use original key. only because that was where my failure wasn’t

Seemed like a great value but upon installation, found the key tumbler assembly would not completely lock into the body casting completely. After wasting hours figuring my tumbler installation technique must be the problem since after starting the engine 2 or 3 times the key would just rotate. From that point I could just pull the entire tumbler assembly out. Upon looking into the interior of the body casting in that end it had not been machined and was just a rough casting. I am returning this part. After looking at several other body casting pictures on Amazon I found one that showed that end had been machined so I ordered it. This time when I installed the key tumbler portion it snapped right in and tested before I installed it. Worked perfectly and I saved about $20 since this time I purchased it without the key & tumbler assembly. It has been in about a week now and driven about 250 miles with no problem.

2011 VW Golf TDI…it was tough getting the old ignition lock out, but the new one went in like a dream. After a bunch of nonsense, I finally swapped out my old EDMI chip from my old key and put it in the new key and it worked like a charm. FYI… the key chip is located beneath the VW emblem on the key fob. Pry the emblem off with a dental pick or something, remove the tiny screw and pop it open. The chip looks like a tiny advil liquigel capsule. Carefully remove the chip and insert it into the rectangular slot inside the new key, that happens to pop open with just your fingernails. You are done, no programming needed.

I have a 2012 Passat and was told by all auto shops that they had to order this part specifically through the dealership/germany and have it built for my VIN. Got quoted about 1000 as a new key would need to be programmed as well.
I’m not a car guy and did a few you tubes but the removal of the jettas is the exact same. I matched the sku number and it replaced my part great and car is now working just fine! It’s worth saving the money

Good part, fit like it was supposed to and took care of the problem. The only reason I didn’t give it 5 stars is it came all togther where the picture and description showed the parts separate. Not a big deal but I had to pull the lock cylinder out to reuse my old one. Otherwise you’re going to have to get the provided valet key programmed by a guru or repair shop. Not to mention having 2 different keys for the door locks and ignition.

I’ve had the item installed for about a month. I haven’t had any issue and am very grateful it was affordable.

Installed on 6/8/23 and working great! I will update in the future.

*Disclosure – I only utilized the ignition switch housing. Not the key tumbler or switch itself*

My ignition switch housing on my 2011 VW Jetta TDI went bad. I could sometimes turn the key to auxiliary power but it would get stuck before rotating to the on position. One time I got it to the on position and turned the car on but then couldn’t turn it back off. Well known shop looked at it and quoted me either $550 or $1000 depending on what was wrong. Purchased this instead and kept the original key tumbler and ignition switch and installed this housing piece with those on it.

Speaking just to the housing – this product is exactly what I needed and works! Yes it was a pain to remove the old one (have to remove shear bolts) and once I did that, the install of the assembled new one was pretty easy. I’m fairly handy and do most of my own car work but still took me a good 4 hours once I knew how to disassemble the new ignition switch assembly and the old one and then reinstall (thanks YouTube).

I knew going into it that the housing was bad because the electrical components worked when I could turn it just enough to get aux power and the tumbler was turning so it had to be the housing.

This is exactly what I needed to save $500-$1000!

This is almost a perfect OEM fit. The only issue I had was for the cruise control module on my MK5 GTI. This didn’t have the smoothed out section in the barrel so I had to grind down the plastic cover for the CC module. Just a tiny bit though.

The components it comes with are 1:1 match.

BE AWARE if you use the key that comes with this, you’ll have to either keep your original key or get new door locks keyed for this key.

I just reused my original cylinder lock as the issue was a broken piece inside the main body.
