At first I thought it was defective, because the brake warning light was still on. But it turns out that Mini requires a complex ritual and voodoo dance in order to reset the system. This part is easy to install and is a direct replacement that matched the location of all the retaining clips. But you do have to make sure you order the right part. Our Mini had three very different possible parts for our model year. This one Amazon claimed would not fit, but auto parts store catalogs confirmed that this was the right part for us.
