The prices on aquapel have gone up dramatically, but it’s a great product. One watch out is that some of the aquapel applicators can be “dried up” and non- useable. Don’t buy too many at one time.

Read reviews and guides. You have to move fast and apply it when it isn’t too hot or bright, but this stuff lasts over a year. Way better than rain x that struggles to last a season sometimes.

This was for a Sprinter van windshield. I was worried that the application would be difficult and likely to fail. Applied right after a night of rain and in 68% humidity and about 58 degrees temp light overcast day. The windshield had an earlier treatment applied by Zebart that may have been the same product and had left some residue in the non-wiper areas of the windshield? I cleaned the glass twice with Zep foaming glass cleaner and a very lightly abrasive foam sponge to remove the residue then let it sit a few minutes to evaporate any remaining cleaner . As it is a large windshield I did just half at a time. Ran the applicator Horizontally then vertically over the windshield, let it sit a minute then wiped it off with a microfiber cloth. It took some strenuous winping so maybe should not have waited at all before wiping. There was plenty to do the other half of the windshield and I wiped it immediately after application with great results. Tried it with the wipers and washer fluid later that day with greta result, water beaded up and wiped or blew off immediately. Much better than Rain-X and I just hope it lasts as long as people say.

If you follow me directions, this product installs easily. I recommend using brown paper towels instead softer white towels. It works great. Heavy rain was not an issue and snow just slides off. Make sure you watch the temperature or garage the vehicle.

To start with, this stuff is awesome! Water beads off like crazy. I’ve used Rain-X for years, and have been happy with it, but this stuff…wow!!! I had to drive to a doctors appointment (almost 500 miles away), and ran into a rain storm. Didn’t even have to turn the wipers on. Granted I was going over 70 mph (so don’t know how well it works at slower speeds), but it was awesome! Water ran up right off the windshield, and kept the windshield clear. If this stuff works as long as they say it will, I’ll be very happy. Performance wise, this stuff is tops! Now, for the not so the quite not so good… while this works great, it does take some effort. It’s not just an easy apply and wipe off product. Application is easy (go to Aquapel’s website for application instructions on how to apply). Once applied though, it takes some elbow grease to get it to the point where ther is no “haze” on your windshield. It will take quite a few paper towels, and a lot of wiping (I recommend doing one half of the windshield at a time). I saw in a lot of the reviews about the windshield being hazy afterwards, but evidently they didn’t they didn’t keep wiping it off enough. If you really buff it out, there won’t be a problem. Like I said, it takes some work., but totally worth it.

I got the product because I saw it recommended as “RainX on steroids”. Now I don’t think I use my wipers as much as some people because RainX has lasted pretty decently for me (especially after I switched to a RainX brand washer fluid). I haven’t had the Aquapel on long enough yet to say how well it lasts (I’ll try to remember to update my review when I have), but it was easier to apply than RainX and has done its job so far. One applicator that was supposed to be good for just the windshield did front and rear glass on my 96 accord (took a little stretching on the rear glass but my paper towel was plenty wet enough with fluid), left a bit of haze after being wiped off that disappeared within a few minutes.
I never had to reapply RainX to side windows or rear glass, only reason I did this time was because I had polished off some hard water spots on the rear and that took the coating with them.
Water beading works completely well. Maybe a bit finer drops than RainX produced.
Overall I’m satisfied with the product so far and if it lasts as long as it seems to for everyone else I’ll be very pleased with it.
Update February 2013: I have yet to find any need to reapply the Aquapel treatment even where my wipers run most, and I’ve had it on for 8 months now though a pretty wet winter in which I’ve used my wipers and my washer fluid frequently. Still quite satisfied.
Update January 2014: I did finally reapply the Aquapel early last fall as my wipers started smearing and the water just wasn’t running off like it used to. I don’t think I did it quite right or in the best temperatures but the fresh coating is working great again. Lasting over a year and still being able to use the good strong deicers and windshield washing fluids (instead of being stuck using rainx product to maintain a water repellant surface) is absolutely a bonus. I would recommend aquapel to anyone.
