I used this to replace an old spring-loaded claw-type cellphone holder in my 2019 Ford F150. This is pretty good, ultimately an upgrade, although I’m keeping the old one around as a backup. There are a few adjustments worth noting, as the product came with no instructions and I figured it out on my own.
The unit installs onto one of the flat “blades”/slats in your dashboard vent with a clamp. It does attach securely, but the tightening knob for the clamp – a flat piece – is too bulky to fully turn once the unit is pushed all the way into the vent. I think they expect you to only install the tip of the clamp on the vent blade (like they display in product picture #4), which would give you a little more room to turn the knob. I did not trust that, as the unit will be holding the weight of a large cellphone and transferring all of that to a single flat piece of plastic. Furthermore, it would be hanging farther away from the blade which would only put more stress on it. I was able to get it just tight enough. I wanted to install it lower on the vent so the bottom of the unit would naturally rest against the dashboard when it tilted down with the weight of a cellphone, but it was in the way of my column shifter so I had to go higher up. It still does tilt down a little and rest on the next slat in the vent. Seems better for supporting the weight than just one clamp on one flimsy plastic vent slat. This fitment will vary based on the vehicle, but it was not ideal in my truck.
You have to tighten down the circular adjustment between the clamping part and the cellphone holder, to keep it in an upright position. There’s a ball joint which snaps into place, allowing the holder to move in pretty much any direction you want. Even fully tightened, it still has the ability to move, which I thought was going to be a problem because it did not feel secure – so far, however, my cellphone is staying upright. I have been driving on crappy PA roads, with all sorts of potholes, divots, bumps, etc., and it remains in place without slowly drifting to one side or the other.
You then adjust the cellphone holder with a knob on the side to slightly wider than your cellphone is. The rubber “anti-shock” coating makes it so that you cannot slide your cellphone into the cradle if it’s precisely fitted to the size of the phone. Instead, when you put your cellphone in the cradle, there is a locking lever, connected to the knob which adjusts the width of the holder, which you click from unlocked to locked – it slightly tightens the cradle up and then the cellphone is secure. The rubber coating is anti-slip, so that’s good for keeping your phone in place.
The materials look to be good quality, better than a lot of cheaper cellphone mounts. The unit feels sturdy, which is precisely why I wanted to be careful with the vent – if anything were to happen, the vent, not the cellphone holder, would break.
This is a good buy. Just return if you have issues with fitment, but I think this would work fine in 99% of vehicles. Universal fit items always run into this, because every vehicle is slightly different.

I really love this item. I especially like that it’s made out of metal. It feels substantial and I don’t feel like it would break easily. I wouldn’t recommend using it on a vent. It just didn’t do well there, for me, and it damaged the one on my car slightly. However, in my OBS Ford F-150, it found a great home on the front of the slide out ashtray. Perfect spot, and it doesn’t block my view. I would recommend this product to anyone. I’d buy it again.

At this price range, this thing is unmatched. No issues so far after 3 rounds of golf on the push cart. Everything tightens on it enough that your phone does not move and it fits a phone as big as a S23 Ultra

Husband has a 2019 Volvo TS 90 he drive to work to see if it would stay in place and for a little while it did. Then he said it fell off the dash phone and all. He tried this an another mount…search continues. Thought it was well made just didn’t work for his vehicle.

The Phone Holder by Gator came yesterday, and today is the first day I used it (so this is a first impressions kind of review). I used it on my Diamondback Sport Response bicycle, though like the ad says, the quick release could work on just about any device you could attach it to – motorcycle, wheelchair, – not necessarily in that order. lol It seems to work great. – My phone didn’t fall out – and didn’t look like it could. So that’s the most important thing. Secondly, it wasn’t hard to install. The all-metal jaws that go around your handlebars attaches quickly and easily by hand and seems durable. You do unscrew the socket that the ball goes into, until it will fit, then retighten the nut around the ball. No Instructions needed – though that would’ve saved me 5 seconds of discovery. But since that was done by hand, I’m a bit confused what the included 8mm wrench is for? Everything seems tight and I don’t see where it could be used, and I’ve looked several times! Oh well, just an extra wrench I’ll save for a mobile tool set.
Now installed, to put in a phone, you unscrew the “dual action clamp” (shown on the right side of the ad, circled in red) wide enough to slide your phone in, and then retighten the wheel some, then flip it’s little lock closed. This was easy, and just took a couple seconds, but my phone has rubber around it, so I found I had to do both. But if your phone / its case isn’t so grippy, you may just have to do an initial sizing, flip the lock closed and not have to spin the wheel some each time.

Works great for my purpose. My current cordless chargers mount was terrible. So, I was able change that mount for this clamp since the balls are the same size. It’s like that ball is a standard size because my old charger also has that same size. Can’t beat the price to upgrade the mount significantly.
