This was installed on my 2006 Honda Element and worked out great.

I chose the Gates brand as a cheaper, yet decent quality alternative to the factory Honda drive belt tensioner. The package arrived clean, and undamaged. I installed the tensioner and had zero issues for about 400 miles, then at low idle speeds and in gear, I would hear this loud rattle. I checked the torque on all three mounting bolts (16ft-lbs) which were ok, and installed a new drive belt. The rattle became less frequent. Then, I removed the belt and started the engine and created the conditions that produced the noise and the noise was gone. This let me know that the new Gates drive belt tensioner is creating the rattle.

I suspect this may not even be a true Gates tensioner given the price, as Gates is a very well known and reputable brand and shouldn’t have this issue, or I simply received a defective tensioner, which does happen from time to time.

I’m past my return window by three months, however, if the seller would like to resolve this issue with me, I would greatly appreciate it and will update my review accordingly. Until then, I would recommend not buying this drive belt tensioner.

I’ve only seen this issue ONE other time and it was on a 2012-2016 CRV which still had it’s factory Honda drive belt tensioner.

Different size bolt and the pulley isn’t evenly cut straight. It is uneven but doesn’t seem to bother it.

Fit perfectly on my son’s 2007 honda crv

  5. DesertGypsy

Does the job, fit right away with no fuss. With something like this, the only what to tell is with time. If you dont see and update from me that means that it’s still working.
One word of advice. Take off the pulley before you install it. Makes it easy to get around and MAKE sure to torque your bolts to spec.

Great quality. Installed flawlessly on 12 CR-V. This install was pretty straight forward. The coolant reservoir just pulled right up and rested to the side. No need to remove tire or plastic shielding to access the bottom of the belts. Looses the tensioner with a 14mm wrench to pull the belt off. There was a pulley attached to this tensioner with two bolts that had to be removed first. 3 bolts hold the tensioner on. One bottom left, on in the middle and one on the bottom right, al 12mm. The bottom left had to be removed using a pivoting extension on a 3/8 drive ratchet. The other 2 bolts are easy to access with a socket and ratchet. Replaced tensioner and used a long screwdriver to align the belt on bottom pulleys and reattached belt on top while leveraging the tensioner loose. No more knocking!

Producto de muy buena calidad. Es totalmente compatible con mi auto. El desempeño es muy bueno, no suena, tiene buena tensión.

Easy installation no more annoying noise.

the tenshioner part may be fine but the pulley is cheaply made and wobbles when new. upon start up the bearing makes noise and started getting worse i had to remove it and put the old part back. i replaced it because i was cleaning the oil screens and thought i would just do this while at it. I’m not sure if i got a fake part or not i have used gates parts on other cars before without any issue. upon reading reviews i see that a lot of people have had issues similar to mine.

    03 Honda Crv
This tensioner is built more heavy duty than other aftermarket tensioners, looks like it was made for a Chevy truck. There for installation was a bit difficult, on this vehicle is a very tight spot to get to tensioner, this one being a bit bigger (5mm +/-), it will be harder to install. But is not the part, but the design of this Honda Crv, no room to work.
The tensioner fit perfectly, and works as supposed to, looks HD , it may hold for a while, time will tell.
