I have a Kia soul 2015 base model . My check engine light came on went to auto zone and they said it was the gas cap to get a new one . Ordered this one . I ordered in February 2022 . It is now January 2023 . So it lasted a month shy of a year . My engine light just came on again and I tried messing with it to get it to go out and it won’t . The person at auto zone said to buy a gas cap from the dealer . I searched on Amazon to see if I could find one that was an authentic Kia one for my car and I did find one . On that listing all the reviews said they had the same issue as me with engine light and the Kia gas cap has solved their issue . I mean this one worked for a year but I have a panic attack when my engine light comes on . Glad it’s just the gas cap but lord I’d rather buy the authentic one than a cheap aftermarket one that I have to keep replacing . Just a head up ! For $13 I guess it was ok it worked but only for aprox 1 year.

Like most people, a check-engine light instills fear of costly repairs. This was the 2nd time our Kia Sportage had an enhanced evap issue. We spent $400 the first time at a repair shop and the light stayed out for roughly 6 months. The check-engine light came on again and a stop at O’Reilly’s confirmed another another evap problem. The young lady there gave us a list of probabilities, with a new gas cap being the most likely culprit. She said it may take some time for the light to go out (40-50 miles of driving). I decided to go the less expensive route and purchased this replacement cap from Amazon. For nearly a week, and I’m guessing about 150 miles worth of driving, the light stayed on. The day I felt I’d waited long enough, and was ready to schedule a repair shop visit, the light went out the next time I started the Kia. Who knows how long this will last, but at least it has worked for now!

You get what you paid for is all I can say. Worked fine for whole two months and now it doesn’t work properly, it clicks and bounces back. Engine light came back on as soon as this started happening.

Worked perfectly for my 2011 Kia Optima EX! Installed in seconds so my gas cap is tethered again like when I got it. Took about 150 miles and my cel shut its self off. Like everyone else said, the click is different, much less audible, but can definitely hear it.

After about 6 months, my check engine light came back on and my mechanic said it was the gas cap and replaced it for me, not costing me much more than this one. I’m not sure if maybe I got the wrong one? Amazon said this was compatible with my vehicle, but only got 6 months use out of it. 2011 4c Kia Sorrento.

Long story short – my fuel tank cap recently broke, and this was an exact replacement.
Since 1996, most vehicles have been equipped with an enhanced evaporative emissions control (EVAP) system that checks itself for leaks. If it finds one, like a leaking gas cap, it will turn on your check engine light. An inexpensive OBD2 scanner will tell you what’s making it come on, and in my case it was the gas cap.
This cap fits my 2015 Kia Sorento perfectly. It’s identical right down to the writing on the cap, and the lanyard that fits into the little retention hole. I used a pair of needle-nosed pliers to squeeze the end of the old cap’s lanyard and pop it out. This new one just pops into the hole, and expands to lock in.
I really appreciate that the lanyard fits so well. There’s a sliding sleeve around the cap that moves very freely, and when you put the cap on the lanyard fits itself perfectly under the cap. That might sound silly, but initially I purchased a cap locally that “fit” my vehicle. It had a crazy long, weird accordion type strap that didn’t fit well and interfered with the closing of the fuel cap door. I returned it and got this one.
This cap isn’t a ‘keep turning and you’ll hear a ratcheting noise’, it’s a ‘turn until you hear one click’ thing. If you keep turning this cap, it will get tighter, unlike the ratcheting type which is kind of a clutch and just will keep turning and clicking.
My check engine light’s off now, and I’m happy. Hope this helps.
