Well, what’s there to say other than these shocks have returned my Lincoln to the magnificent land yacht it was in its younger days. At first the ride was harsh and I didn’t like it, but after about 1000 miles the ride started to smooth out and now after about 3000 miles the ride is as good if not better than factory new.
Before I replaced these rear shocks my Town Car would bounce for a while after going over a speed bump or hitting a pot hole in the road. Now, with these shocks installed my old Lincoln doesn’t look like its got so much junk in its trunk.
UPDATE:
I like ‘em so much I’ve now replaced the front shocks with Gabriel Ultras as well. I also replaced both front coil springs and the rear suspension air bags as well as the compressor, air lines and actuator valves. In addition to a few other parts I now have a completely rebuilt suspension on my Town car and I couldn’t be happier.

Husband was able to install these on my 1998 Volvo S70 T, with no problems, in about 3 hours all 4 wheels (I also got the matching rear shocks done). Avoided the $350 install fee at the local shop because no specialty tools are needed to mount these struts. Had evaluated the ‘Volvo spec’ brand of suspension products on the specialty websites that we have here in the NW. Just did not want to go the twice the price route to have the cache and prestige of Volvo spec gear on this car, this daily driver that will see its wheels driven off in the course of my job that requires about 100 miles a day. So far, I find no appreciable negative difference in the ride quality (which was the reason I fell in love with this car to start with). Granted, by the time these were replaced, the ride quality was not likely close to what would have been ‘factory’. But I notice the upgrade. Husband noted that the original gear that was on the car was definitely worn out at 156K miles, so the money spent was well worth it. If money is no object, and you like the prestige factor, sure, go with Volvo spec. If those two factors don’t apply to you, then go ahead with these Gabriels. Super fast shipping via Amazon, too (vs. the 3 weeks it would have taken the local shop to procure them). Noted: I think I posted a review of the STRUTS (front end) here, when it should have been a review of the SHOCKS (rear end)!!LOL but you get the picture!

Gabriel G57040 ReadyMount Complete Strut Assembly (Automotive)
I purchased these Rear Shock along with the Gabriel Front Ready Mount Struts listed above. Just pull back the side panel in the trunk without removing it to expose the rear Shock Mount. Do not remove the Shock Mount but remove the large Center Nut on the Shock by using an Offset Close End wrench and a Vise Grip or small Open End wrench to keep the Shock’s Shaft from spinning as you remove the Nut. I managed to remove the Bolt under the car without jacking up the car but you may want to do so to gain some room but do not raise it too much and use a Jack Stand for safety. 3/4 to 1.5 Hours depending on your skill level and tools for both sides. The Offset Wrench is a must!!! Google for some Pictorial Tutorials. If you have trouble getting the Shock’s Shaft to go into the small hole in the Shock Mount while under the car you may just want to remove the Shock Mount from the top and place it over the Shock’s Shaft.
The ride is like being on marshmallows but very taunt when you encounter bumps. I would assume other cars may not be as taunt as Volvo’s are designed that way. Rides so smooth I am not use to the marshmallow feel yet and the car is much quieter over all even though they are on 5 year old tires in need of replacement. Time will tell how they hold out. Ok..I went with Gabriel because I wanted a sportier feel than other competitors for a decent price. The main downside with these shocks is that they do not include the rubber bump stop and secondary rubber bushing that Gabriel’s competitors include. With that said, I did my research and was able to find both bump stops and bushings, for a CLK500, on Amazon for less than $20.

Have had these shocks on my Ford Explorer for about 1.5 years now. Just standard driving to and from work and around town, nothing out of the ordinary. Both shocks are already leaking fluid and squeaking over bumps and need to be replaced. Probably lasted 40k miles. Definitely save yourself the hassle of replacing them shortly in the future and get OEM or Bilstein.

I installed these myself on a CLK430. A little challenging but doable. I had already bought and installed the matching front shocks. They are half the price of many competitors and perform well. The suspension is still compliant and the car handles well. If you have an older Mercedes that needs new shocks and you don’t want to break the bank, these fit the bill!

The packaging could have been a little better. 2 struts and 2 shocks in the factory boxes inside a big box. There was some movement and sliding around, but no damage to the parts, just the boxes. The struts went on fairly easy, just took a bit to get the driver side bolts to line up all the way. The old struts and shocks were 9 years old with 85,000 miles on them. When I compared the old to the new, there was a huge difference. When I compressed the old one, they barley extended back to full length and one would not do anything.
So far I have out about 50 miles on the new struts and shocks and now it rides like a new car. I no longer have the klunking sound. I’ve read a good deal on other reviews as far as the longevity and like most other products, there will be a some bad ones. For the price I couldnt beat it. October, I get the rebate on one rear shock + Amazon points and points from another card will cost me $10 out of pocket plus a control arm link that was $15. So if they hold up for 75K miles, I will be very pleased.
