I decided to write this review because I didn’t presently see any ratings at all for this part. It arrived earlier than stated, and was well packaged. Each part was individually wrapped and separately boxed with no damages to the item or sipping package. The price was great and was the same $$ for both left and right regulators (with motors) as some of the other Amazon offers’ single part price. No idea why, but as I write this they are unavailable. That’s unfortunate, because they seem well made for the price, and if they hold up for more than a few years, are a very good buy. Glad I put them in my cart when I did.
Both driver and passenger side windows on my 2002 Mazda B4000 were dead, but I only managed to install the driver side regulator assembly and get it working before the 95+ degree summer heat here in Georgia wore me out and beat me into submission. After installation the window operated smoothly and with no problems at all. The motor is powerful, and moved the window with no hesitation or hitches. Be careful though, and don’t do what I did. Forgetting that the driver side has the “auto” function that I’ve always hated, I almost mangled my hand after having partially installed it inside the door. Trying to bump it up and down (powered) with the door button to get access to the mount holes that the moving arm obscures, it traveled non-stop downwards. Images of myself laying in a hospital bed flashed through my mind suddenly and the moving arm smashed my hand against the inside of the door. I barely had enough time to twist my hand out of it’s path before it was crushed. I got lucky, because when I say the motor is powerful, I mean it. If it had caught my hand the right way, it would mean serious damage, and wouldn’t have stopped until it went far enough to trap my arm inside the door. Being an older design, there aren’t any safety sensors to stop it. Kind of embarrassing to do something so dumb, but I’m telling you so it doesn’t repeat. Even without that F-up, the install wouldn’t have been easy because I’ve never had the pleasure of attempting it before. I work as an HVACR tech but have many years of experience in other fields as well, but this project made me thankful that I steered away from a career in auto repair. Each vehicle has it’s own repair challenges but the trouble I ran into came from the general engineering design from Ford and not the maker of this part. Instead of bolts or screws, the regulator itself and the window glass are secured with rivets. Drilling/cutting the rivets out is time consuming and not fun at all, especially the two large ones that attach the window glass to the lift bracket. You’ll have to first run the drill bit through the lift bracket and then into the plastic grommets inserted inside holes in the glass. It’s hairy.
The whole time I worked and cursed the engineer who laid it all down on paper, I wondered at why they used rivets and not bolts or screws. Then as I installed the new regulator, I learned why they did it that way. The way the regulator’s mount plate attaches to the inside of the door leaves almost no room to insert bolts and attach nuts and washers. The mounting holes for them are made almost inaccessible by the arms and plates of the moving pieces that lift the window. Mounting with rivets takes 1/10th the time as using bolts, maybe less even. I have a rivet gun, but it’s way too small. A very large tool, for large rivets is needed. I wasn’t about to search for one and buy it just for this job, so it took me twice as long to finish. I still have the passenger side to do, but know what to expect now, so it should go much quicker and easier for the next one. If they last for a few years I’ll be very happy. I hope they are available again soon for others to purchase. At almost two parts for the price of one, this set can’t be beat.
