So where to start? Well first of all it works just fine. Price is right. Probably the same as any of these, they are available from many sellers, probably nothing special about this one. Now the small elephant in the room as mentioned in various videos and Reddit posts. Yes this one has a little plastic outlet for the cooling tube and no the factory cooling tube will not fit over that outlet. Perhaps if one cut off the end of the cooling tube it might, but I didn’t want to modify mine in case, I wanted to revert to stock. You could also go looking for a tube that might work. My easier solution, simply cut/twist/crack the little plastic outlet fitting off of new motor.

So with that out-of-the-way, installation is a bit of a pain, but that isn’t the motors fault. It goes in just as easily as the factory one comes out, and as easily as GM intended. I did take an additional step and scrape off a little bit of the black paint from the ground lug connection, applying a little bit of electrical contact grease. Although it probably would’ve ground fine through the screw, I figured why not. Which leads me to the most unexpected positive aspect of this motor, the black paint. Perhaps like me, your factory insulating cover, has disintegrated and fallen off. That is NLA BTW, just in the last few months and cost 3x what this motor does anyway!!! The factory motor, or in my case a 2001 Valeo replacement is a glaring galvanized, silver color, sticking out like a sore thumb under your dash. This one is an appealing black color, and after removing the bright blue “quality“ sticker is incredibly unobtrusive. As I said, unexpected, but perhaps my favorite part of this repair.

By the way, while you have this motor out, you really need to clean out the air box. Plenty of good videos online, vacuum if you can, but mostly this is a matter of spraying it down with a hose, your favorite spray cleaner, hosing, your favorite spray cleaner, hosing, you get it. Remember these things don’t have a cabin air filter, and you will be disgusted and amazed at what you get out of there.

Which brings us to the last, how does it work? So mostly I replaced mine in order to do the above cleaning. That 2001 Valeo was still running just fine. It was a little bit noisy on low and mid speed but functioned perfectly. So how is this one? Well, actually, it is a tiny bit noisier, bearing noise on low speed, but quieter in the mid ranges, and actually much quieter on the highest speed. Which then brings another odd positive at least for me. My factory unit seemed to blow more forcefully on lowest speed than I really wanted. Often I found myself between turning the fan off entirely or having it on low speed. This one blows less forcefully on the lowest setting, but much more forcefully on the highest two settings (mind you I did of course clean the evaporator core so maybe the original would’ve been more forceful on highest speeds). Regardless, I’m tickled to death with the appearance, and the fact that that lowest speed is less forceful. I will take the trivial increased bearing noise on that lowest setting gratefully. All in all a win!

fit perfectly and much quieter than the 27 year old motor it replaced. A few things to note about the install for those that are looking at this unit. You will need to remove the plastic piece where the cooling hose fits. Not sure how the plastic piece is suppose to work with the original hose but if you cut it and remove the original hose fits perfect. I cut it using a pair of side cuts with a cut at top and bottom length wise in the bushing. It then split and half and was easy to remove. Second you will have to transfer over ground lug and crush washers/bushings for mounting. Other than that it bolted right in just like the original and I was even able to get the noise dampening cover back up and around it. So far the blower is quieter than the original and seems to move more air.

Nice replacement item. Fits well. Works as expected. Goes in as should. Nice and quiet.

Works great in my squarebody. Fans from a GMT 400 fit square bodies and produce 20% more airflow. This generic replacement is quiet and produces more air than the factory fan.
