The hood struts on my 2010 FJ had become weak and were no longer supporting the weight of the hood. Started about a year back with the hood slowly coming down. Seemed to vary with weather, some days it was okay and other days it would come down faster or just wouldn’t stay up. I got used to having a broom stick or something to prop up the hood.
Then one day, a gust of wind knocked out the piece of pvc pipe I was using to prop up the hood while I was working on it and the hood came down on my head. Yeah, that knocked some sense into me.
After I stopped seeing the stars, I came into the house, got my phone and ordered these for $16. They were delivered the next day and I installed them immediately. Easy swap, took maybe 10-15 mins to do both struts. They work great and hold up the hood easily even in strong winds. No more having to look for a prop stick and watching my head.
If your FJ’s hood struts are weak, do yourself a favor and get these right way. You can thank me later.
